    So...
I had a holley four barrel but then switched to a q-jet. I didn't want any hassles, so I got a "performance" remanufactured q-jet. My motor is stock, stock manifolds, dual flowmasters 2 1/2 inch pipes, msd/hei with recurved timing, stock compression, full wieght 4 dr, 2.56 gears, auto trans, stock converter. What jets/rods does everyone think I should run, and where can I get them?
The secondary metering rods have DA stamped on them. I took the carb apart a while ago (had to replace a sticking float valve) and I wrote down for the primaries. But all I wrote was "primary- 76/76" and "primary 44K". I'm not sure if one is the jets and the other is the rods?

edit - just did a little reading, and see that the 76 is the jet size and the 44K is the rod

    gscalifornia Small blocks rule!!

76 seems awful big for a 350 engine. I think the stock qjets for the 350 engines usually had 69 or 70 jets in them. The biggest I was told to run in my 350 was a 73 jet, that was with aluminum intake and headers. I usually run a 70 jet in both sides.

Some people like to stagger the jetting as well running one side a size bigger than the other. I'd have to go through my old notes to see which side got the larger jet though.

There was a really neat chart in an old issue of the GS-Xtra that showed which rod sizes to run with the different jets so that your partial and wide open throttle readings were maximized. I think I have a copy of it at home but don't have it online.

thanks for the response. The research I did kinda says 76 is on the large size. I had a old q-jet kicking around, (old one from my friend's 79 olds cutlas 305). It has 41 rod and 72 jets. I think I'm gonna put them in and see what happens. Then I'll go from there... wish someone made a jet/rod kit cheap. $109 for a assortment of jets, rods, and hangers, kinda steep. My jet kit for my ol' holley was like $30....

Guys you can get rods and jets and most other things from Edlbrock. Use to be listed in Summit and Jegs catologs. I know their in the Edelbrock catolog. They have all the tooling for the Q-Jets. Hope that helps. :TU:

    Carb Jetting

Jetting a Q-jet depends on weather it's a 750 or an 800CFM. The 800's were jetted richer because they flowed more air. A 72 455 Stage1 carb had 75 jets and 45B rods. All big block Q-jets from 71 & up were 800's. My 800 done by John Osborne for my Stage1 has 76 jets with 46B rods and BG secondary rods (.0397 power tip). The chart that Ken talks about was in a GS-extra awhile back. I believe the rule of thumb when jetting up is for every 2 or 3 increase in jet size to go up 1 rod size to reestablish your part throttle cruise mixture. I believe the GSCA recommended 73 jets with 44B rods as a good starting point along with AU secondary rods (.053 power tip). Hope that helps.

    Thanks
    It is a 750CFM, it's the 74 later style
I should have had Osbourne do one for me, instead of buying this one.
The prob with the edlebrock jets/rods are they go for $6 a pair, and the assortment box goes for $109....
but I may buy a few for testing...

well I ordered a 73 jet, gonna use the current 44B rods, ordered the CK sec. rods with a .0527 power tip... closest thing they have to AU rods.
Got friday off work so, we'll see what happens! Put that g-tech to use
