Holly Vacuum issues with a 455?

Discussion in 'Holley' started by racerxjj67, Sep 26, 2006.

I've been thinking about a holly carb for a mild build 455 with stage 1 converted heads with TA 290-94h cam that was suggested to me. I also plan on using an Edelbrock rpm intake. Since a holly is a vacuum secondary carb, will I have vacumm issues with it as well as with my power brakes using that cam? Or should I change cams or just use a mechanical secondaries 850 Edelbrock carb?

Why not just run a mechanical secondary Holley? Not all Holley's are vacuum secondary. That cam should provide you with lots of vacuum though.

    Holley mechancial secondary carbs

Don't know about the camshaft but Holley produces (and has produced thousands) probably millions of mechancial secondary carbs. They call them double pumpers. Getting back to the power brakes, you could use an aftermarket vacuum canister to store extra vacuum for the brakes. If you lived close to me I would give you one!

the vacuum secondaries open from venturi vacuum in the primaries of the carb. manifold vacuum has nothing to do with the secondaries opening.

A-ha! So that's what they mean by double pumper. I've always heard holley double pumpers mentioned but couldn't figure out what made them different from any other holley. I thought double pumper just meant 2 4-barrels.

Also, anyone know what kind of horsepower and torque I could roughly expect with that cam (TA 290-94h ) over a stock 455 cam? Remember, I plan on using heads converted over to Stage 1 specs and an Edelbrock rpm intake.

    Thanks in advance.
