Just bought a Holley HP1000, and noticed that there are no vacuum ports on the carb. How do I vent the engine? I am going to run the SP1 and was going to use a breather in one valve cover, and the pcv in the back, to the carb. I am using the chrome Buick valve covers, from a 70' GS 455. Can I cut a hole in the passenger valve cover, and add another breather? Is this enough? Is there a way to run the pcv? Could I rig up a hose on my open air cleaner and connect it to the pcv in the back of the manifold? The motor will be putting out over 500hp. I am a bit confused. A happy Thanksgiving to all. I run a Holley 1000 HP and SP1. The SP1 has a port in the rear, just below the carb mount flange, that you can use for PCV vacuum. I use 1 breather in each valve cover. All is good.
Bob, are you saying that your carb has no vacuum ports as well? I think you are saying that their is a port that I can tap into on the manifold, that is above the crank case pcv hole in the back? If so, do you tap into that port and then connect it to the pcv in the lower back? I do not have an SP1 in my hands, only the carb as of yet. Would it be asking too much to provide a picture? John, You can also just use a 1" spacer and drill and tap for a nipple to connect the PCV to manifold vacuum. But installing a nipple in the manifold just below the carb flange would do the same thing if height is an issue. I used a spacer on my SP2 under my Dom. as height wasn't a concern.
O.k. Dave, I understand now. Can't thank you enough, and It looks like I have multiple options. I am using stock hood, so clearance could be a concern. Looks like I will tap the SP1 if there is no provision, plus one less gasket to leak if I do. Regards, John. :TU:
John, I took some pictures, but we have new software and are having trouble getting them enhanced and sized. When my wife figures it out, I'll put them up. There is a threaded port just below the carb mount flange in the rear. It points toward the rear, which is convenient. I used a threaded hose barb and a short length of reinforced (fuel injection) rubber hose to go to the PCV valve. Real simple once you see the manifold. HTH's!

David, have you put in your fuel filters yet? Do they go into the two bowl ports? I was thinking of moving the heater hose from the front of the manifold, to the back. Than putting an in line filter, about where the original heater hose would be. Do yo have any part numbers for the filters you are using and their locations? Not yet John.. I have been lucky and everytime a do a jet change there has been no dirt in the bowls. But my luck could run out. p I am going to get the Holley filters at Summit :TU:

I don't think you need anything else. I took the bowl adapters off and it looks like those filters fit right inside them. :TU: Got to go now.. I'm bringing the car down to my Brothers shop to change the rear gear. It's 60 and sunny here in New England. :ball: :ball: I'm crying because I sell heating oil for a living. ou:

Guys either i didnt read right or im dumb,there is no port on the rear of the carb for the pcv hook up t the manifold on a 1000 hp Holley?

George, look at the pictures in this post, buy Torqued 455. Follow the links as well. You will find some options. You can either run a spacer, with a tapped hole for the pcv hose, or the T/A SP-1 has a port in the back, already tapped, for this purpose. P.M. me if you want to discuss it futher.
