    Got a couple question's...........
A buddy is looking at what is claimed to be a #'s matching 66 F-85
My question's are should there be a center console with a column shifter?
And does the body look like its badged properly for a f-85?

    thanks, Olds ignorant here. :Dou:

Nice car, love the color combo.

To answer the first question, simply NO. If it had a console, it should have a floor shift. However, you could get bucket seats with no console and a column shift. I had a 65 that way.

As far as badging and trim? Car is not a 442, so start there. Could be verified real fast by the size of the engine (330 small block(gold) vs a 400 big block (bronze)). 442 models had a different grille, no molding on the hood, and die cast "rockets" installed in the front fenders. Can't be just added, fenders were different in that area with provisions to insert and mount the rockets.. Also taillights and trunk molding were unique to 442's.

As far as what it is, body number would tell whether it was an F85 (el strippo), and F85 Deluxe( add some moldings), or a Cutlass (add the nicer interior and the moldings and badges. The F85 car would say F85 on it, the Cutlass would say Cutlass on it.

The interior ledas me to think it's a nice Cutlass hardtop with an added console and some added badges. Still nice, though.

Looks like a mixture of the models to me. I think someone added the center console and maybe added bucket seats and emblems etc from a 442.

FWIW--Go over that body with a fine-toothed comb. Especially the lower parts and underneath. You don't want to get stuck buying a rust bucket with shiny paint that starts bubbling and cracking later on.

Maybe it's just the pic or my lack of intimate knowledge of the body lines on the earlier Olds's but in one pic the bottom of the Quarter Panel behind the rear Passenger side wheel looks to have an odd "shape" to it....the lower part of the qp seems to flare outwards as it approaches the P side rear wheel opening. May have been a little sculpting done down there by an overzealous bodyperson:Brow:

The dash pad is not original. Someone sewed it together! A f/85 would not have a console. I posted a pic of a f/85 dash. The f/85 will have a very simple interior. The dash plaque will say f/85. f/85's came with either a 6 cyl or a 330. 442's came with the 400 ONLY. It is NOT a 442. Fenders are wrong for a 66 442. Nice car, but I wouldn't pay $8000.00 for it.

I've never seen a white instrument pad before on any year Olds. Was it painted/dyed? White interior cars always had black carpeting, black consoles (if so equipped) and black I/P's. In latre years they offerred a contrasting combination to match the exterior like a red I/P, carpeting, steering column, etc. with a white interior on a red car, etc. etc. Think that was in the mid 70's on the next gen cars (73-77). Went along with the body colored wheels (N67- instead of N66 grey) theme, bu separate options.

That RH 1/4 panel does look like someone cake frosted it. If you haven't already looked at it, pay special attention to possible rust in the trunk floor and up under the panel between the rear glass and the trunk opening. Tehse were known to trap moisture which eventually found its way into the trunk compartment directly rusting below the trunk mat, and keeping the whole trunk area moist and accelerating the lowe quarters to deteriorate. Doesn't kill the car, but has to be done right. This doesn't look right as Patton pointed out.

So how so I highjack an already Olds posting thread?

Still like that car......a lot. Don't find them up here that nice for that kind of price.

The dash is light gray. The sun made it look white. The interior is light gray/dark gray. The rest is black.

Pretty nice. Years ago guys used to go down to Tijuana for a cheap, but high quality rolled and pleated naugahyde interior. Think they also called it "tuck and roll".

Guess you don't have to go there anymore as most of them are in southern California now.

I think "Tuck and Roll" had more to do with what they were smoking than how they pleated the interior. :Brow:
