Looks like another olds is going to live in my garage, alone with the pacecar ou: Did you happen to see the 68 H/O on ebay last week? Well if you did It,s headed here:3gears: Pretty soon olds will out number gtos around here
The Ron Garey car ? I saw that. It seems to have gone thru a number of hands since it was found ??? What's the story ?
Color me Green! Hey Noel, If you ever get sick of it, give me a call, I might be able to help you out! Get with Karl Sarpolis, he is the '68 H/O advisor. I think that you can get his address through the Hurst/Olds Club of America. Is it an air car? Fill me in. Our company has made access to E-bay restricted so my watch has dwindled dramatically.
Rusty Dave Casey No a/c on this car just pb, power ant., and am/fm thats about it. owner tells me 4.10 gears maybe 3.91 o No: Don,t know much of the history other than it is and old racecar. Been sitting since 1974. Car is in Tracy Calif right now . It,s #183 on the Hurst registery Body looks very straight and int looks real good. Orignal motor missing along with the trans.Has a hole in each 1/4 panel golf ball size? Can,t wait to see it. Plan is to sell other projects and start on the car this fall after psmcr hope I can have it done by psmcr next fall ?
Hurst That sounds like a great project. I'm sneaking up on my 68 Hurstish W30. Still in the parts gathering stage, but the body and chassis are done. Fraid it'll never see Pure Stock, though. M/P? :Brow: Maybe, but it will be fast. Proven combination. If the rear end is an Olds built 12 bolt(10 bolt ring gear), it is probably a 3.91. Ratios available in then were 3.42, 3.91, 4.33, 4.66, and 5.00. Highly unlikely it's the original if it was an old race car. If it's a 12 bolt Chebby, it could be a 4.10, 4.11, whatever,
I've been dying to see a '68 Hurst Olds (especially non-AC) at the PSMCDR for years. Hurry up on that restoration, will ya?!! I hope you do it up right with the correct cam and heads. Personally, I feel the '68 Hurst/Olds has the best looking paint scheme of any muscle car ever produced. Looks great coming or going. Congratulations on your purchase!
was this the 68 that has 3 coats of paint and just looks tired from the outside, but the interior is pretty nice? Of course there was also another 68 H/O in AZ on ebay, but this one, when I looked, was sitting at $47,300 and the reserve hadn't been met yet. Karl's email is karlskorner@msn.com He redid the 29255 carb for my W-31 whenever I get some projects completed and have room, I will have a 68 H/O myself ...... one of these decades.
Brian and Chris Yep that,s the car. Last owner sent me tons of pictures and looks pretty good. I had a 69 h/0 15 years ago and have wanted another since..I really like that it,s a non air car . Car should leave Calif. by next monday Can,t wait to see it.Then maybe I,ll sleep at night. Dave your new toy is looking good:TU:
Another 68 Hurst- ebay #2485474216 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=2485474216&category=15287 (Having trouble getting that to copy right.) Magical word in the description is "Berejik" Olds. Heap big time famous "factory/dealer" racing team in 1968. Wonder if this is one of their old race cars? Low mileage, no rust, and most importantly the Glasgo/Detweiler front end ride height option. Noel: pop up some corn, pop a cold one, and sit back and watch the bidding on this. You'll feel really good about your new project.
Re: Another 68 Hurst- ebay #2485474216 niiiice car. I'm not up on my 68 H/O knowledge, but what assembly plant was code W? I would have thought all H/O were built off of cars from the Lansing (M) assembly plant. And did all 68 H/O have that red pin stripe where the silver and black meet?
Re: Another 68 Hurst- ebay #2485474216 Hey! those springs are stock!.........stock for a Vista Cruiser with a plow package.
The pinstripe on '68 H/Os was white. The one on the '69's was black. Legend has it that only one guy was doing all of the striping. He would come in after the dayshift was done and stipe all of the cars they finished that day. Brush in one hand, beer bottle in the other with a cig hanging from his lip!:Brow: Brian, Those are stock springs! When you have the motor out from under the hood, the car does look like it is ready for a moon shot!ou:
This is true, Rusty. I actually saw that emaciated looking thing stripe quite a few of the 68's at Demings. I smoked at the time, so that didn't bother me, and after 5 years at Ann Arbor, he actually looked "normal" to me. I think I saw him at the DNC convention the other night, too! Sure could stripe, though. :TU:
Yea Dave I,m watching it. and feeling good about mine. Dave what code block should i have? F? or something else. We need to talk about cams and things at staton:Brow:
YUP shopuld be an F code block with C heads (or D if it's a non air car.) Last set of D heads I saw for sale were around $1600 and needed everything. C's are plentiful, look for a set with big intake valves (2.07) or have them put in. D heads only came on Hursts and W30's. Try to get a 68-70 block as they had better crankshafts (nodular) and higher nickel content in the block casting itself. If youi could find a complete engine from a 68, you should be in good shape even for date codes as all the Hursts were built late in the model year. You know everybody runs stock cams in Pure Stock. What a silly question. :Brow: Can help you with a good low cost adjustable valve train with stock rockers that is legal, though. I'm running it on my Ramrod right now. We'll see how it holds up.
No kidding.......Rusty, you have to attend more P/S events. The cars Dave mentioned look or looked like the engines are out......just like that car with the engine out...... Detweiler ended up changing his springs....thankfully.....but only after saying several times they were "original" or "stock" That's the story.
