A brief history of this car:

Bought in Buffalo, NY at Bartlett Buick (still has dealer decal on trunk lid). My aunt bought it from orignal owner in late 60's early 70's and my father bought it from her in '75 ( the last year it was on the road, still has '75 inspection and registration stickers in windshield). My father drag raced the car from '75 until '77 or '78. We have an attic full of trophies. I don't know which class the car was run in, but they needed a new carb, replaced it, and were told the car was no longer legal until they replaced the carb with a factory orignal carb. It currently has a Carter carb on it if I recall correctly. So the car was put in storage from the last days of its racing career until I got it in 2001. And now that brings us to today.

I guess the only real questions that I have is what class would be so strick as to not allow you to run because of the carb? Did they replace the origanal Carter with a larger Carter or was it a totally different carb all together? I could not find any #'s on the carb but I really didn't look that hard yet. I guess I could clean it up some and see what I find if anyone knows what the origanal part # is I could compare it. Do I have one of the High Performance engine packages I've heard about? How about IDing the tranny? How do I tell if it is a ST300 or ST400 tranny? The car does not run so I can't check it that way. Did they put different Shift indicators on to let you know it was a 2 spd or a 3 spd? Thanks for any help anyone can give.

Interesting to see that Flint used the somewhat universal GM trim tag accessory codes, that were used by a few of the other GM assembly plants. 1st started researching these accessory codes on Pontiac & Chevy A-bodys about 16 years ago, right after Super Chevy published an article with good breakdown of the '65-67 ChevyII accessory codes.

    To relist your info...

On the accessory codes, you have no Grp 1 options. Group1 will have an E, if vehicle had all tinted glass. W if the car only had a tinted windshield. Also, I believe X was a group 1 accessory code for power windows. On the X, will have to dig out some old pencil etchings & copy of a buildsheet to confirm that. (Group1) Y was pwr seat option.

Group 2... you are showing 2XG. Not sure on the X in this line (am betting it is the 2speed SuperTurbine 300 transmission) but the G stands for floor mounted console. If the GS had a 4spd, it would show up as a W, in this spot. For '67, it would have a Z if equipped with Turbo 400. Other common group 2 accessory codes include K and R. K stands for airconditioning and R noted a rear seat speaker.

    Group 3 (no options)
    Group 4 (no options)

Group 5...you are showing 5KY & ...at this time, can only decipher the Y in this string. Y is for deluxe seat belts. Have never decyphered the ampersand symbol, in Grp 5, but have seen it before.

    options

    Roger,

Thanks for the info. If you need more info on my car I can list all the options that it has or lack of. The car appears to be pretty much as it came from the dealer exept the carb. Let me know. Thanks.

    Eric,
Here is what I have for option codes
    Group 2
    X - Trans (300) Auto
    G - Long Console (Auto)

    Group 5
    K - Door Edge Guard
    Y - Deluxe Seat Belts

    I do have a few questions;
Does your car have a power or manual top, and does it have a Tachometer mounted in the automatic console?

It might be better if you listed all the options your car has. Thanks for the info.

    Duane,

Thanks for the info. It has a power top and no tach. Lets see, it has power steering, AM radio, drivers side manual mirror, power steering, non power assisted brakes, power top, non powered bucket seats without headrests, manual windows and locks, not sure on tires and rims but it had 14" steel wheels when I got it that were gold in color, Green exterior with black top and black interior. Thats all I can recall right now but next week the snow will be melting so I can move some of the cars out to get to it and check for more. Is there anything that you want me to look for in particular? Let me know.

    Eric,
I thought your car didn't have the tach in the console. I have info from some other GS cars that had them, but the code I figured for a tach was missing on your car. Other codes for remote outside mirror, power/recliner seats, all tinted glass, etc were also not there, so the car looks like it was optioned like you thought.

If and when you get some time, see if you can locate the broadcast sheet. It will probably be inside one of the front seat backs, or under the front seats, directly against the springs. I would be interested to know if other codes are on it that are not on the ID plate. Thanks again.
