Anyone get theirs yet? I signed up for a free copy a couple months ago and got the first issue yesterday. It was adressed to my Dad, though, for some reason o No: (passed away ~6 years ago). Not a bad mag. LOTS of diversity, it seems that they're making a point of it- but it isn't just talk, like other mags. Format/style is a little funny, more like Car and Driver than something like Car Craft. havn't noticed any buicks yet- except one. there's an article that has a big title photo with a new Mustang GT racing a primered '70 Sportwagon with a cowl hood and pro-stars...sound familiar to anyone?:beer there's lots of mopars, an AMC, and an article on a mercury meet so far, though, and i'm only halfway through it.
Dave, I got my issue Wed. The Buick wagon in that photo belongs to Paul Cassidy, from upstate New York. His board handle is Buickwagon:Smarty:
I recieved mine the other day. If you are into correct musclecars and resto tips, it lacks a little. How did you like the 3 option '72 442 W-30? I am up in the air if I want to have that thing jammed in my mailbox. According to my wife, I have too many magazines coming my way as it is.uzzled:
Still waiting for mine. My buddies get the other rags (Hot Rod, Car Craft) and share, so I figured I'd contribute.
I got my first issue this week too. I think it will be another good magazine for us muscle care fans. Not just 100% stock muscle cars all the time. Don't get me wrong we have some 100% stock muscle cars but we also have some slightly modified cars too. Look around at the GS Nats and you'll see that many cars have maybe 2 or 3 non stock items that would cause the traditional type magazines to not feature them. This magazine looks like it would actually do a feature on a GS that has a B4B or headers or a CD player that is in plain vie instead of "hidden" in the glove box. Also worthy of note is the fact that this issue didn't have to have a Yenko Chevy, a Hemi Cuda, Boss 429 Mustang, or one of the other "popular" cover cars that us average cars lovers would have to sell our house to purchase. Really, think about it, there were only 7 1971 Hemi Cuda convertibles made and I feal like I've seen 30 in magazines over the years, but you rarely see a 383 auto cuda in a magazine. It's like we continually see the rarest 5 percent of muscle cars 95 percent of the time in magazines. I love GSXs but after having seen so many in magazines and in person it would be nice to see an occasional '70 GS 350. If I want to see the Rarest/most expensive dream muscle cars over and over I'll just thumb back through my collection of past muscle car magazines. I don't think this will be my absolute favorite magazine but it might fill in where some of the others lack. At least now there are a few choices among muscle car magazines! Just my .02
I would definetely have to agree. This one seems like it will feature more "out of the mainstream cars". Like the article on mercury's. I am hopeful that one of these articles will be on the GS's.
Arrived Saturday Received my copy yesterday. I'm real happy with it, really like the "Car and Driver" type layout with all the spec's on the car. TA got some nice coverage on their Rear End Covers. I'm glad I spent the $12 on the year subscription.
I received my first copy and one back issue. All I can say is it is a top notch rag. The pics are outstanding and the coverage very fair, plus the reading is very good too. Not just some shmucky text to fill the non picture areas. I am extremely pleased. Way to go Hemmings! :TU:
great mag but in there article about F.A.S.T. races they claimed mopar has dominated the year one F.A.S.T. shoot outs when in fact wasn't it Greg Gessler who took top honors in the last three year one F.A.S.T. shootouts. sorry but they didn't give the buicks any respect, just the chevys and mopars
Marco: Buicklawyer is a judge for the Olds Nationals. He can tell you the date for the changeover with more precision than I.
Thanks Jim - 1972 is FINE! I was wondering which issue of Hemmings Muscle Machines slighted the Buicks (according to John C above). Sorry for any confusion, and thanks for letting me know about the black inner fender wells in the 1972 model year :TU: I love my Buicks first and foremost, and I highly regard the Oldsmobiles next :Brow: I love that front-end of the '68 442 :beer
[QUOTE I was wondering which issue of Hemmings Muscle Machines slighted the Buicks (according to John C above.) [/QUOTE] the new one with the gto and mustang on the cover i think its the december issue, the article is called F.A.S.T. chevys prevail. theres some good gs shots, but the article praises the chevy and mopar F.A.S.T. cars, but hardly acknowledge the buicks o No:
No Buick Bashing Guys, I think there may be some confusion. I don't have any part or relation to the magazine, but I think some are judging a little too early (flame suit on!). The article in Hemmings is covering the Norwalk FAST Drags. Greg Gessler, if I am not mistaken, has taken top honors back to back at The Bristol Bash FAST races in '01 and '02. These are all a part of the Year One Series of FAST Drag races, but are two seperate events. Hemmings I guess only decided to cover the single event at Norwalk. I don't think a magazine that claims and has been covering the 'other' cars would intentionally slight buicks. They gave the factual results of the outcome at this one event as far as I know. But wait. Now HOT ROD has a killer article on Greg Gessler's GS. What is happenning in this world!!!!
Re: No Buick Bashing if you read the article F.A.S.T. Chevys prevail it says "FOR MUCH OF THE PAST TWO SEASONS, MOPAR POWER HAS DOMINATED THE FACTORY APPEARING DRAGS, IN BOTH THE YEAR ONE SPONSORED F.A.S.T. AND THE FACTORY STOCK CLASS." isn't the year one F.A.S.T. race the race that Greg has won the past few years? making buick the dominating car at the year one F.A.S.T sponsored races. its a great mag and i'm not trying to tear them appart, but i just think the buicks pretty much started this type of racing and if a buick guy actually won these races that accomplishment deserves to be reconised. mopar gets enough as it is. P.S. i just want to say again that this is a great mag, i'm not trying to rally a lynch mob. just pointing something out.
No problem here, I just read the HOT ROD and it specifically stated the Gessler won the Bristol Bash races. The Hemmings article covers the Invitational Norwalk FAST Event. Again, two seperate races but all a part of the Year One Series. So, NO Gessler did not win the event in the article in the past few years. I myself do not know how many Year One FAST races there are in a season. If there are 10 races in a season and mopar won the majority, then the statement would be correct in Hemmings. But again, I don't know. o No: Does anyone know where you could find the results from the entire season. I think it would show buicks definetely being a contender. I think the FAST races would be fun , but the competition is getting very stout. I don't have that kinda knowledge about engines like Gessler. Those guys could certainly school me. :Smarty: No hard feelings, :beer
