Just received my new Musclecar Enthusiast Magazine, and read that there is going to be a shoot-out between a Hemi verses Stage 1 at the Pure Stock Drags this year. That's good news, because even though I've only been a spectator at the Pure stock Drags, those guys run a strict true stock musclecar event. With all those past bogus shoot-outs, maybe finally will be able to put this damn thing to rest. Lets hope so. Personally I like all the musclecars and really could care less who wins, but since I own a Stage 1, I'll be there in the stands rooting for the GSX. :3gears: If you think about though, with the brute torque of Stage 1, plus maybe some weight advantage, verses the Hemi's extra horsepower and cfm from those two Carters, it could be anybody's race really. Can't wait.

Unless the cars go through the voluntary Certification Program, there's little chance anything will be put to rest. Although to a lesser degree than some of the other events, even the P/S cars are not above the occasional controversy. Yes Sir, non-OEM performance decals have been unearthed in the damnedest of places!

:TU: Glad to see that Dan is picking up on this drag race for the Pure Stock Drags. The coverage will be high and it will highlight the PURE STOCK DRAGS as a place to be with your MUSCLE CAR. With all the press that the HEMI vs STAGE 1 has generated in the past, it should help bring the folks out in the stands. Maybe it will get more people involved with their rides. Maybe, just maybe, we'll see this 25 year old debate put to rest? NOT!!!!! LOL

    JIM

I expect more controversy than before. :TU:

Can't wait to see who is tied to a tree on this one.............LOL. May the supertuning begin. If this one goes down in history like the last 2 races the owner of the loosing car will get flack for years to come ouch........! If not a close race, the owners name will be listed under mud in the dictionary.

    JIM

Their might be more riding on this one than people know?

    Hemi verses Stage 1

Does anyone know what kind of exhaust systems these two cars will be using? Also, what color is the GSX, and does it have A/C? And does anybody know what transmissions these cars have? I don't know if these two volunteers would agree or not, but what if there were to run a complete stock OEM exhaust, and tune the cars to stock factory specs. Maybe a couple of tech. guys from the Pure stock Drags could inspect both cars before they race? Just a thought.

No offense to Mr. Waymouth, but I think he is setting himself up to become the Roy Baddie of the 21st century. He's bringing a knife to a gunfight. His Challenger is one of the most heavily optioned Hemi Challengers on the plantet, loaded to the hilt with power steering, power brakes, power windows, powerasswipe, you name it this car has it. Never been apart, possibly all carboned up, never been on the dragstrip in its life. A shootout of this importance is not the place for a heavey trailer queen car to make its dragstrip debut. The "virgin stock" Buick is currently being rebuilt. My crystal ball says that this one goes to the Buick, and it won't be close. :Smarty:

Which just brings us back to the fact that ANY race is merely a race between two cars with two drivers at one track on one given day. Nothing more. It doesn't prove anyone else's car is quicker than any other car.

Still, I find it interesting that the mopar camp is the first to start whining ..... :Brow:

I'm kinda interested in that power asswipe option. Any more details on that? :Brow:

The ASSWIPE option come from your own car club when you loose the best 2 out of 3.

    Funny Stuff

You guys are cracking me up. The powerasswipe option Joel is referring to is A69 on the trim tag it is part of a greater package including the aforementioned powerasswipe portion included w/lip moldings and tissue dispenser.

As Joel stated my car is currently a trailer queen and virgin to the track and will remain so as it has a series of shows to attend this season before the race. I will have fresh plugs and pionts if that helps Joel :Dou:

To answer MrGSX70 questions: Yes they will both be employing a factory stock exhaust, factory jetting, factory timing curves, cams...

What Joel is concerned about and likely with his knowledge is correct about is I did concede to letting the Buick being rebuilt which he feels is a disadvantage or more so by his post. It was done under Dan and Bob's watchful eyes. It is the S1 that was dyno'd in a past issue with MCE by Dan. Lynden has agreed to revert back to a 100% stock S1 carb of Dan's, return the timing to original and put a stock exhaust on. He does however have an over bore and balancing that my car obviously does not have. He has correct replacement pistons, and NOS cam.

I understand those are differences my motor does not have being all original but to date Dan has not found a 100% virgin car to compare to my Hemi. Lynden's is as close as we have gotten with a Buick that he has a deep understanding of. I also realize that there will be a differing of opionion on how much each person will apply to the value added by the rebuild of the Buick. However also understand Dan says it has not been decked or cut in any other manner than the bore. It does not appear to be an overly prepp'd motor.

With some driving tips from Dave, Joel and Bob K. on how to get nose heavy Hemi's down the track maybe we can off set the S1 engine?

To answer the rest of your questions MrGSX70. The Buick has a 3.64 gear, w/an auto, no air and white I believe the color is last time I talked with Lynden. Atleast that is how I remember it.

Dan and Bob will be doing a mini cert they said. They will pull the carb(s) and check jetting, timing etc. Bore scope the intake and intake ports, P&G the cars and do other tech inspections. I am sure there will be enough Buick/Mopar guys around to keep everyone honest. Or atleast I hope that to be true.

Here is to a good race and praying I am NOT the next Roy Baddie. Again if someone has an actual low mile S1 or Hemi (lighter car for Joel) that is truly virgin and is willing to prove so I am sure Lynden or myself would be willing to step aside if Dan chooses to accept the car. My car is a Super Track Pk car but as Joel stated has a heavy assortment of options that do not exactly help her out, the powerasswipe option withstanding as we all know how important such a rare and valuable option it is...

I really think that you need a truly VIRGIN Stage car. Bottom line: that one has been apart.

I've got some feelers out ...... [IMG]

Because it is such a passionate topic in the musclecar world .... and especially the Buick and Mopar camps, I don't think that "close enough" is good enough.

You are a bigger man than I am. You must clang when you walk! I don' t think I would have the guts enough to take a car that has not been on the track. I have to admit, when I first started taking my car down the track, it was running low 15 second slips. After I had everything built and started tuning and learning to drive, you can see what has been done. Hope you can make it to the track a couple of times to see what your Elephant can do!

No fair...they get to run wheels...

Really, for this to be a true comparison, the same guy needs to build or

rebuild equally optioned cars using the same machinists, assembly, driver,

    yada yada yada.

Not having a preconcieved notion of the victor.

Otherwise even "virgin stock" cars will be contested because of options,

rebuild, your virgin car has less miles than mine......your car was stored

    differently etc etc.

I suppose it makes for good arguments though. :TU:
