Back in '82 my good friend Andy had his '66 Sport Satellite out to keep the fluids moving and getting the seals dried out. Mind you, this is the special ordered HEMI car that he tryied to get in '65. In fact he still has the car in storage, a true 1 owner survivor car (39K, 426/H-D4spd & Dana).

AS he's tooling alot the highway, a '68 Charger with HEMI badges pulled up along side (at 60 MPH) and challenges him to run it for top end. Andy thinks no problem, pulls it down to second gear and on the count of 3 ......

After jumping out by say a 1/2 mile of so, no Charger. Thinking that's strange, he slows down and the Charger catches up. The kid then asked him if that was a real HEMI. Andy nods, the kid points to the Charger and says this isn't. Andy just about peed himself laughing.

    That's a classic.

Just goes to prove, badges don't really work. :error:

i've never understood the idea of pretending to be faster than you are, but the other way around is always cool.........i'm thinking of trying to quite my exhaust and taking the z28 trim off my camaro.......stock rims, lowered, all scratched up........that thing can't be fast, can it?

collecting hemi parts in the woods? i wonder if they somehow lure unsuspecting mopars into the forrest, only to never be heard from again

hmmm thats a good idea for the z28 ive been waiting for someone to make their camaro or mustang with the 8 look like a 6 cyl model.

I'd be embarrassed to pretend my car is a Stage 1 when it isn't. While I understand to a point why some people have the need, I just couldn't do it myself. When you think about it, it's pretty sad.

That's pretty funny...one of the hazards of owning a clone car.

It's not necessarily a bad thing to own a clone of a highpowered or rare muscle car so long as you can back up what you advertise. When you think about all the old musclecars where the original hipo powerplant blew up and was repalced by a sickly lower powered mill (like all the hemi cars that ended up with 383 and 440 after the hemi spun a bearing, or the gs455s out there that someone put a 350, chevy or otherwise, into).

Besides, how many hemi satelittes or yenko camaros or royal pontiacs did they make? not many and most are out of the working mans price range.

yeah, the only problem is getting the dual cutouts to sound like a v-6
"uh.....i think my muffler fell off a ways back" :Do No:

Yeah, i don't mind clone cars, but it's got to be at least as bad ass as the car it's cloning :bglasses:

    Gerry,

Sounds about right. If you don't advertise, you don't get picked on. Of course the sleeper factor is better that way also.

i can tell another story about a sleeper - a 1970 black (gs455 i have to assume & from the descrition related to me many years later) . two of my brothers friends were cruising about sarnia in a souped-up 1966 chev impala 396 and this car was known to be fast.
at a stop light, an all black 1970 badgeless a-body buick 2dr ht pulled up alongside. eyes made contact & at the green light, the race was on. my brother's friend said that by the time the impala reached the next light, the buick was long gone. needless to say the owner was quite embarrassed. by the way, they never saw the buick again !

Don't ya just hate it when that happens.

I used to do simular things to others, my "old farm truck" was a '71 ElCamino SS. Had an LT-1 Vette motor and was fairly fast. Never lost to anything while I was driving it, came close against a '70 Rancharo GT with a built 429.

Of course I kinda knew who to pick on, left the GS 455's, LS-6 Chevelles and Big Block Vettes alone.

had a friend who bought a plymouth sat hemi new no heat radio etc.... he said he was racing a furd and both cars were going so fast that someone called the cops and got the wrong color and makes of both cars. sadly both he and the sat have died.
