Ol' Blue has developed an oil leak, I assume it's the rear seal. There is no other traces of oil coming from anywhere else, so......
Is this something an average at home jackstand mechanic should attempt? Does the oil pan have to come off? is there a better seal than others?I gotta get this fixed, it's starting to leave a trail!!!!:(

Put in the neoprene not the rope seal like the original. TA performance or Tri Shield will have them . Search the old posts for tips . An ugly job. If you don't cuss and do not want to learn how, I would get a pro to do it.

    Jerry,

I had the same problem with my GS455 a few months ago. I took my car to the pros as recommended for the repair. I purchased the TA no trim neoprene rear main seal and took it to them. They pulled the motor and did the repair. To me, it was worth it not to have it leak like the Exxon Valdez! Anyway, good luck with this. Not cheap on the repair bill if you decide to farm it out.....

Are you coming to the SE Musclecar challenge in Reynolds GA Nov. 7-9th at Silver Dollar Raceway?? Good to see another Buick musclecar here in the Peach State! :TU:

This job can be done without pulling the engine, especially if you didn't assemble using main studs. If you did though, getting the pan out out of the way becomes far more difficult.

    Rear Main Seal

BuickOne, Man what ever you do don't short cut this one. You would be wise to pull the engine because oil pan removal is bad enough and there is to much chance of damaging the chank. Don't use a rope seal save that to tie up the dog. The neoprene seals work great. AL
