I have disassembled my stock 65 GS shifter with the exception of the part that bolts to the lever. I really want to get this part disassembled so I can clean and lube all the moving pieces. The part I am having trouble with looks like a 1/4" by 1" piece of square stock or maybe a woodruff key. I can't get that piece out and it holds the main lever assembly together that goes into the body of the shifter. I hope this makes sense as I don't have a camera handy. Anyway it looks like this key should come straight up out of a groove, but it won't. Any ideas? I'm about to leave it together and just oil that part.
