I need a some help to find a source of refernce material for identifying Muncie transmissions. I remember there being a series of article s a few years ago in Muscle Car Entusiast or Muscle Car Review that gave the name and ISBN# of a book that had all the info in it. Can anyone help.

Or can I just provide some of the casting numbers or the two transmssions in question here and get the answers I need?

All of my cars are BB,OW,BS -M40 equiped cars.

    Thanks

    Jim,

I wnet to the site today and just got more confused than before. What I know now is that I have a 1963-1965 M20 and some other Muncie. M21 or M22; I don't know which. The numbers I got off the case and extension housing are not listed.

    Post all the numbers.

PS - Are coming to the 'Stage1 Convention' at the 2010 BPG Nationals in OH?

    Marco,

Here's the numbers I've got. I'll give you the rebuilt unit in need of a rebuild first. Then the one I need to identify second.

    3851325 case casting number; 3846429 tailshaft casting; 3884685 side-cover casting. I know this is a M20 for a 1963-1965 car.

468011 case casting; 28L777352 Vin; 47826558 tailshaft casting; 18-3952645 side-cover casting. I think this is a M21 or M22. It has been rebuilt and has a lot of silver paint all over it. I can strip the paint scrub it to get better clarity on the stamping numbers if needed.

As far as going to the Stage 1 convention next year- well I hope to be able to but I really have no clue currently.

It almost sounds like the 'mystery' transmission is a Saginaw

http://www.nastyz28.com/forum/showthread.php?t=17989 shows the sidecover part as a Saginaw.

Check what you have, as the castings do not fit a Muncie format

Interesting that it could be a Saginaw transmission.

I'll check some sites and see what that reveals.

Thanks, I'll update you when I snow more.

It appears the mystery transmission is a 3-speed Saginaw from a Nova, Camaro, Nova. This is swap meet or tradeable along with the M20.

I'd be looking for a M22 that fits the correct part number and date range for the car it wil be installed in.
