Are you saying that an 80 Firebird has a 9 3/8 inch ring and pinion that will fit a 66 -70 Riv? *********** ************* ************* *********** There was a Board member that had a 66 on ebay recently but was questioning whether it would fit a 67 -70. A 71 and up 9 3/8 from a Riv will not fit the earlier model years. I think the 3.42 9 3/8 gear sets are the same for 66-70 but their is something different about the overall posi package. The 67-70 posi unit with a 3.42/ 3.91 is 1396955. The 66 has a different number.
Mike there is a yard here by me that has 2-68's and a 69 riv. 2 were big block cars. im not sure if they are posi or what gears but i will check when i get a chance. what do you want to pay so i can talk with the owner?
I wonder what the difference is? I think maybe the '67 has a larger carrier bearing on one side than the '66 but it's been a long time since I saw one, that's just a guess. I know one thing......the axles are the same dimensionally, but the '66 had a cast appearance and the '67 were smooth. Go figure o No:
I haven't got a clue about that. Just thought I'd throw that out as it may have helped...probably not the case though. Good luck with your hunt.
i have a posi from a 67 electra and one i can get from a 70 riv gs as well the 67 i just took out tonite and have not checked the ratio yet had a 430 motor and 400 trans car had 80 some thousand miles on it i will pop the cover and get some pics for you ghildebrand@wi.rr.com chicago is 2.5 hours from me Greg
I know of a '67 with posi locally........it's not a GS so my bet is it's a 3.23 or a 3.07. I can't get under it to read the code until the weather breaks. If it's got 3.91's in it (yeah right, I should be so lucky) I want it for mine. Otherwise, I'll see how much I can get it for and maybe there's a way I could ship it to you by truck but it'll be expensive. :bglasses:
