Hey everyone!! I have a 63 Riviera and am currently rebuilding the carb....yes I want to keep her factory lol...anyway, the only part that I need is the primary float which I cannot find...I have called several places and cannot find it anywhere! Well I did find it at one carb specialist place in Georgia but they were shockingly rude to me over the phone when trying order so I just cant bring myself to purchase from there....My last resort will be to drill a tiny hole, drain the float and solder it back together but that's a really precise thing and I have never done it before...

    SO

    Here are the details:

    1963 Riviera
    401 Nailhead
    Carb number: 7023143
Float number: 7016674 (I think this is right? looked at 1971 Delco parts list)

It is the primary float with the notches in it...I am willing to purchase from the USA if needed (I'm in Alberta )please help!! I don't want to have to put aftermarket crap on my beautiful car!!!

FL-98 is a float part number... not a kit, and yes, the float is never in the kit. It appears to be available from rock auto, they have a location listed where the part is right now..

Ah I put that part number in, its not the same float as what I have, and I was told that they are not interchangeable? Apparently there is one of three float options and this one is the harder one of the three to find..

Do you know if they are interchangeable?

    Thanks

You don't mention if the carb. is a Carter AFB or a Rochchester 4GC. I would imagine it's a 4GC as the AFB floats are readily available just about anywhere.

I saw you left me a message today. I was just able to check them.

You have the 4 GC carburetor, or 4 jet.
Does your secondary float have the notch underneath?

I don't currently have 4jet parts in stock, only Quadrajet items, but I do build 4 jets from time to time and have some cores on hand for parts. Finding a used one might be only way to go. I could check with my suppliers on availability and let you know what I find.

Ah, I see... I was wondering what the deal was, Carter floats are easy to find. Not being an expert on the early engines, I was unaware of two possible carb choices.

So your looking for this float?

    http://www.carburetor-parts.com/Rochester-4-Jet-Float-Primary-Side--Used_p_2481.html

That might be tough, fixing your own would probably be the best option. Try any old time radiator shop to have them repair yours, they should be very proficient to both the soldering and leak check procedures.

AH thank you BAD BOATTAIL I will figure out how to make a signature! And thank you for the suggestion about the wet behind the ears thread I will definitely introduce myself and Cruella there and thank you for the contact Larry Daisey I will definitely contact him!

Oh sorry telriv the carb is a Rochester 4 jet off the 401...i forgot to mention that

Carmantx- yea the secondary float does not have the notch, but the primary does and thats the one I need..im perfectly fine with a used one, I need need to be sure that its balanced and tested!

And Jim weise yes!! That looks very similar to mine, I will see if I can figure out how to add a photo of my float!

Thank you for the help guys
