:af: swapped in hei in basicly a stock 350,did the usual drop it in where the other one was and put wires on , backfires ,dies, 180 the wires ,backfires and dies , off to the store new module,starts runs for a split sec and blows fire,pull cap , line balancer up to zero ,verify top dead,same thing. seems to do the same thing no matter what , pulled distrib and tore down going to put a new pick up in it , no cracks in the magnetic parts , pickup coil looked kinda crusty.i dident forget to remove the resistor either.verifyed 12 volts at key on and crank. runs for a split sec and seems to go 180 out. car ran fine with points. going to ball up some newspaper under the drivers seat light a match and go for a walk:grin: anyone have any sugestions ,before i overhaul the distributor. :blast: HEI.

I would pull out the distributor and double check that the distributor gear has 14 teeth. Then I would triple check it, very carefully. If it has 13 teeth, then you have a big block distributor. Just a thought! -Bob Cunningham bobc@gnttype.org
Check the number of gear teeth for correct first. Coil next, if it's layer shorted, it can do exactly what you describe.
ITS ALIVE :beer :Brow: :grin: THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO REPLIED!! PULLED OUT THE HEI AND IT HAD 13 TEETH. OLD DIST HAD 14. swaped the gears , had to enlarge the hole in the gear becase it uses a bigger shear pin ,and it fired right up .UNBELIEVEABLE INPROVEMENT !THANKS!!!!!:beer now to email the guy that listed it wrong :af: :Comp:
I think I would be wondering what kind of damage it may have done to the cam gear? I don't think I have ever done that myself, but always wondered if it would chew up the gears or damage the dist. shaft. o No:
