head gaskit??

    head gasket??

    I torn down my engine to check it out and freshen up and the head gasket on #5 cylinder had a burn spot on the ring on the top going to the valley is this normal or the early signs of the gasket blowing out????here is a picture

    No, not at all normal. Did you by chance check the torque figures of the two top head bolts/stud nuts that that burn is between? There's usually an excellent chance that the torque spec was low or the fastener (bolt/stud) has "relaxed" somewhat. OR....sometimes, if the deck surface of either the head, the block or combination of both is milled excessively thin, the head will lift at no real fault of the fastener.

    And yes, that is the perfect example of early signs of head gasket failure.

    Not to preach but ALWAYS, no matter the brand or make of the head gasket,....re-torque, re-torque, re-torque and re-torque!!:TU:
