Please look at the picture my battery is blowing stuff on my radiator. There is a small vent on the battery and I have installed a vent hose on the battery to direct the stuff down where the radiator overflow drains. What is causing this and how do I fix it? Thanks in advance.

I bought an AC Delco battery from the dealer this past Spring for the orange 72 I just finished. And it pissed battery acid all over the core support and cause a huge mess. I'll never buy another one with a vent in it.

Check your charging system. You may be overcharging the battery and that is the acid spraying out as it boils

X2 on the charging system. Seems as though your voltage regulator isn't doing its job correctly. It could explode your battery!

You might want to neutralize what came out the vent the best you can. Especially what might have leaked under the battery tray. A baking soda/water solution usually works well.

I plan on removing the battery tray and the radiator to clean the area up. and repaint what needs to be touched up. Is the voltage regulator adjustable or does it need replaced? I am going to multi meter the voltage across the battery terminals and see what voltage is being sent to the battery. Any other suggestions on what I need to do??? Thanks Guys.

the old voltage regulator can be adjusted. Chassis manual describes it. purchase a new/rebuilt regulator with internal regulator. Then modify the wires at the volt reg as described on this site. U can purchase an electronic voltage regulator to replace the old one which has probably failed.

Get a sealed battery. Idoubt its spraying unless you witness it. Wind or rad fan probably sucking it over toward the rad. If it gets to the point of spraying it wont look good.

When that style battery is overcharged it will pressurize and spray/mist out the vent as the battery basically boils.

Even when its' charging properly it will vent gas, but shouldn't really shoot out spray or liquid.

An Absorbed Glass Matt Battery will not have vents and is worth in my mind.

AGM batteries is all I will ever use, I've worked too darn hard to preserve these old cars to have a garbage battery or a bad charging system ruin it. Check it over well something has gone bad in your charging system.

Just put a voltmeter across the battery with the engine running. Should read about 14.3 volts or so. Another reason for real gauges in a car. Fuel Pressure Oil Pressure, Temperature, and Voltmeter.

I am told there are only 3-4 battery manufacturers these days and they are the same construction and they put different brands on them. I still use Delco in my cars even though expensive.

Regardless of the brand you like, the AGM is worth it for the amount of sweat and blood we put into our cars.

16 volt XS Power battery and be done with it:) oh and add the appropriate alternator. Lower the voltage to sensitive electrical components. It will spin the engine like the plugs were out of it:D:D:D

Thanks for all the replies. I haven't looked at the car we had 75 mph winds and I have been cleaning up the mess. 5 acres in a timber end up a mess and a lot of work.
