i was wondering what length of rear axle i should be looking for,im thinking of having one converted over to fit my regal(be it a 9 inch 12 bolt or dana 60).

Numerous companies sell housings already set-up for "G" body vehicles such as your Regal. How much horsepower do you plan on having? Another option would be a 10 bolt one out of a GN or "T" type (8.5 ring gear) which will handle quite abit of power. People are running in the 9's with the 8.5 rearend.

If your going to have one modified locally then why would you not have it made to the length of your present one in the car? Additionally, don't forget that you can move the wheels/tires in or out by the amount of wheel off set you run. I used a 70 Monte Carlo 12 bolt (with south side machine bars) by running wheels with a 5 1/2 off set so I didn't have to narrow the rearend. I was able to run a 275X60X15 Hoosier Quick Time tires or a 28X11.50X15 ET street tires.
