I have never really liked the Comp Plus shifter--it feels clunky, slow, and imprecise. My '72 Camaro had a short-throw straight stick and I liked it a lot. I have an old Hurst shifter that appears to be a Super Shifter with reverse lockout. They guy I bought it from said it came out of a Camaro or Chevelle. If I installed it in my 69 GS that has bucket seats and no console, in place of my Comp Plus shifter, would it be hard to reach and shift with it? Has anyone seen or tried using a non-bent shift handle in an A-body car? If it's a bad idea, then I can put this Super Shifter up for sale, to help finance the TKX I plan to buy. Anyone have an F-body car that needs a shifter?
I had a Mr. Gasket (made by Hurst) in my '64 Special back in the 70s. It was a very short throw, narrow gate and was tight as a cat's @@s.
I had a Vertigate in my 69 when I was racing it in AHRA competition, but it was awkward on the street.
Thanks, everyone, for your comments. I think I will swap this thing into my GS in place of the Comp Plus, or at least mock it up there and see what it's like trying to shift. I will report my findings.
