getting ready to do my gsx stripe. question? does the stripe run through the door handel or below or above.?I dodnt have a livegsx that I can look at thanks Ken
Through the handle Ive heard the stencil kits are good, worth the money, but have never used one personally
If you'd like, I could send a set of the copies of the GSX stripes that came from the Muscle Car magazine many years ago. Drop me a pm with the address and I'll get them out soon as I get it. I don't charge for them it's totally free..
Buick actually painted the stripes in the car with the door handles in place. Overspray was common. It was a rush job.
The stencil kit is well worth the money to get it correctly put on. They also make a very nice decal set for the GSX and all you paint is the hood.
Agree! I used the decal kit on my race car and it was spot on! I had one little issue which was "partially" my fault and they took care of it 100%. Not for a concourse GSX restoration, but great for a driver or GSX replica. The nice thing is that you can remove them if you ever decide to change your mind without having to do any paint work. I am confused!!!!!! one calls the kit for the stripe a stensil and someone else calls it a decal it. I have built model airplanes ad put decals on after soaking the decal in water it slides off and you put it on the model. which is the stripe kit????? do you have to paint the stripe after applying the stensil or is the stensil a vinyl stripe that you apply and it is finished. please help me get this correct before I spend $ on the thing. thanks for your help. Ken
What Steve linked is the Decal kit, you just have to paint the black section on the hood the rest is included as well as the red stripes for the hood
I'm also considering the decal kit and have a question. Once applied, can you wax the car and buff with a polishing wheel without disturbing the stripes?
It adheres as good as any quality vinyl will, but you'll still need to be cautious at the edges and especially the front section, which is a very sharp point. With a little care it can be waxed and buffed, but personally I would stay away from the edges with a buffer and just do those sections by hand. My race car has been polished by hand many times and it shows no sign of premature wear. Steve
Gottem a few days ago. I am probably going to use the decal kit, and this will help get it right. Gonna measure, then leave pieces of tape to mark decal location. Thanks BigNasty.
Ken Just a suggestion but if you do decide to paint the stripe ( highly recommend) I used a 1/4" stripe with a 1/4" gap. Seems to really make the stripe pop. Had that suggestion from another board member. Good Luck with whatever you choose. Leo
