Well, a friend of mine just sold his '70 GSX (yellow) and unfortunately it wasn't to me.

It was a stage one, numbers matching automatic that was absolutely loaded with options. It needed work to be perfect, but was a great car.

We kicked around the idea of a straight up trade, my convertible for his GSX, but thought better of it.

In the end, I couldn't come up with the $26,000.00 that the car ended up selling for. (Took him about 2 days to sell the thing through Hemmings) A GTO guy from Milwaukee is now the proud owner; his first Buick.

I know I will be kicking myself for not buying this car, but as a divorce attorney, the last place I want to find myself is divorce court.

Anyone else out there feel a similar pain? Kindly share, I'm in a fragile state.

Missed my only shot so far on a '69 GS400 Stage1 Convertible (1 of 212) because my daily driver, A FORD at the time (lincoln Mark VIII) decided it wanted to be a doorstop instead of an automobile.

I couldn't get there - I would have been first to see it - because my steed was dead.

Called later in the day - 3rd guy there, by 9A, had bought it

1995 - it went for 5K needing quarters and a top......original old-man owner selling it

Still kickin' myself over not being able to buy the 68 GS 400, 4 Speed 17,000 mile car that China Mike bought! it was mine for the taking, but I had too many other cars in the way that had to be liquidated first. I bowed out and passed the torch (and the pictures) to Mike, and within the hour it was his. At least I know it went to a great home.

Here it is again, I never get tired of seeing it:

About 5 years ago I went to Houston to buy a '72 Stage 1-4 speed convertible that the guy assured me was in show condition. When I got there, I found that it was not as nice as he said but still a decent car. Had rust in a few places and needed a new top and interior and a few other things to be a show car so I offered him less money. We couldn't make a deal so I passed on the car. I have regretted not buying it ever since. I still think about it often. Sometimes we just don't think right.

    Ouch, that '68 is beautiful.

There is a '69 stage one convertible lurking somewhere in Kewanee, Illinois, at least the last time I saw it.

Really rough driver, owned by a female state police officer. Car was blue with white interior, white top, white interior, automatic with console, loaded with options. She said she was going to restore it, wasn't for sale at the time. Would've been a knock out car restored.

I remember a purple 1969 Plymouth Roadrunner that I missed (it had something to do with the fact that I was 9 at the time and it was 1974 - an old fella at the end of our dirt road had it up for sale for $800.00. Eight hundred lousy bucks!!! Man I wanted that car. Talk about the scaring of youth - I can pinpoint my infatuation on muscle cars to that point. Fortunately, I found the right path and am a Buick freak!!!

I also let a rock solid numbers matching 69 Stage 1 4-speed get away from me 2 years ago. The owner wanted me to buy that car so bad, he worked on me for a year. 5k was all he wanted but I just didn't want it at the time. Now's a different story but too late.

Rob if you're tiring of that S1 convt. please add my name to the list of people who'd love to have it.

    Tough Thread....

1980 - 1971 Stage 1 hardtop for $850.00. Silver/Black/Black bucket seats. A/C, Power everything, N25. Minor paint chipping and tires dry rotting. I was 15 and Dad wouldn't co-sign as required by PA state law even though I had saved double that doing a paper route. "To much power", Dad said. :gt: Car was later wrecked twice by its next owner who then parted it out.

1983 - 1970 Stage 1 convertible. Seafoam green. All numbers matched. $1,500.00. He said it was rusty, but when I opened the trunk and could see the frame rails clearly, I thought it overpriced and passed. :Dou: :Dou: :Dou: :Dou: :Dou: :Dou: :Dou:

I don't know if that one survived or not. My guess is considering the market at the time he probably sold it cheaper than $1,500 and someone used the drivetrain for another car. Anyone have a light green Stage 1 convertible. Marco do you know if there is one out there and if it was delivered to Western Pennsylvania?

    gsx

robert, around the end of july 2002 i was online searching for a 1970 gsx. it was a saturday night and i was on the hemmings web site. i found a gsx for sale in st. francis, wisconsin, about 50 miles from my house. i called the owner, he said 5 people had called from out of state and the ad was a couple hours old. he had 2 appointments monday morning to show the car. i talked him into letting me see the car on sunday morning. i did not sleep much that saturday night. at the time i was the owner of a fire red 1970 gs 455 stage 1. i knew if i wanted the gsx i would have to sell the stage 1. the next morning i got there, looked over the car and i told him id take it, but would he give me time to sell my gs. he could tell how much i wanted the car and he gave me a week to sell my car. i sold the gs in 6 days and picked up the gsx the following sunday. to this day im glad i jumped at my chance to get a gsx. in a couple years ill look for another gs when my son is old enough to drive.

    StageTwo It's a Beauty Too.

Back in high school, before I really knew about Buick muscle cars, I was with my friend while he went to look at a car. He knew even less about Buicks than I did. The car we test drove was a 1969 Stage 1 with an automatic and bench seat. My friend's dad talked him out of it and into a 1983 Blazer. I can't remember the price on the GS for sure--probably around $4,000 (1989)--but I sure do kick myself for not knowing what it was at the time! It was in great shape. The Blazer? He sold it like any other car about two years later. :Dou:

    Likely?

    Hi Marco,
Thanks for checking dude! Considering the car was in Western Penn, one of those could be it!

Just after I finished the 71 Stage 1 in 1989-90, there was a 72 GS 455 convertible for sale. I looked at it, and it was missing the hood and original engine was removed. He was asking 3000.00 and was a jerk to be honest. tried to bs me on the hood, it was an option on GS's he said.

Anyway, I went off to school and forgot all about it, until last summer when i got an e-mail from a gentleman who had a 72 GS 455 convertible. with 126 made I had to ask and sure enough we checked notes and it was the car I had passed on 14 years ago.

Its in good hands too, which is good.

I have a 72 GS 350 convertible I am working on, so that makes things better.

    Topcat Got TORQUE?

    I missed a '70 Yellow Stage 1 GSX 4-speed with Cragars,Lakewood ladder bars and a Craig PowerPlay 8-track.
It was very nice with only 26k miles and this was in '76.
Owned by an employee of Northern Auto Parts on Eastern Ave. in Grand Rapids, Mi. I could have bought it for $2,500.00 and i had the money!I was going to Tech school and i had just balanced and blueprinted TOPCAT's motor for the first time and wanted a new paint job also.So i passed on the "X" and have ALWAYS regretted it! 1999... My buddy took me to a "muscle car dealer" in Northern NJ because there was a 69 Riv there and he thought I'd be interested in seeing it as I had only owned my Riv for a year.

The Riv there wasn't much to look at. But...

There was a frame off resto of a '62 SS 409 Impala there. $100K in receipts. For sale for $22,000!

I crawled all over that car. It was perfect. Just perfect! She's real fine, my 4 0 9. No options, but hey, it WAS a race car, after all. 4 speed, dual quad, posi traction 409!

Looking back I would have gladly slept on the floor of the laundry room for a year for bringing it home. They even offered on-the-spot-financing!

1987 - pulled into a parking lot right behind a 73 GS (Century?). I was just getting into the Buick Family at the time so it caught my eye. We ended up parking right next it. I looked over the car over right away & commented it was in really nice condition for its age. She said it was always garaged & the only flaw was the missing emblem on the front fender I was next to. Walking around the other side the Stage 1 emblem was still in place. Then she said she was thinking of selling it. I could have it for $1500. I was fresh out of high school, making payments on my '83, and knew I couldn't do it. I lost sleep over that one for a long time. It had to have left town, I've never seen it since.

1990(?) - just north of my high school there was a car parked in a driveway that'd always been under a car cover. I always thought it was a 66/67 Chevelle. Finally saw it with the cover off - 67 GS400, and a convertible to boot. Now with a for-sale sign on it. It was kind of rough, would have needed a top, definitely some detailing, correct wheels. Interior had some mold, some died panels, etc. He was asking $5000. Again, more than I could afford at the time. Just saw that one again last summer, maybe the summer before. Top down, cruisin' through town looking like it should. Haven't seen it since, but at least it appears to be in good hands.

1997 - 81 El Camino with a 355, nitrous, rims, 3.73 gears and a built 700 R4 transmission. Was 12 at the time, but dad didn't seem to care much about that fact. He wanted it almost as bad as I did. A little rust on the quarters, and rough paint, but a good car overall - $800 (it was an impound). Sold before we could get at it.

1999 - 1951 Plymouth Savoy. Flattie 6, OD, manual everything. beat to heck, 4 flat tires, NO rust, and it ran OK - $450. Couldn't get it 'cause I just bought the Delta (something I should have passed on)

2003 - this past spring, I was looking at a car for a friend. 83 Olds 98, 307, no emissions stuff. ran like crud because of a bad fuel filter. some rust spots, adn a falling headliner. Ripped up vinyl top, but overall, a really nice car. He wanted $750 when I talked to him. He came into my dad's store and said he sold it for $25 bucks and the dude is still driving it. I almost went psycho on teh dude. he KNEW I wanted it.
