GSX 24 hour clock?

Discussion in 'Buick FAQ' started by Andrew Skidmore, Dec 16, 2004.

I have recently heard that all GSX's had 24hr clocks as a standard option in them from the factory, is this true? Or is it a standard option for just one particlular year of a GSX? And last of all is this 24hr clock standard or an option on a 72 GSX?

I believe the 24hr clock was standard on all 1970 GSXs.

In 1971-1972, a 24hr clock would have been ordered separately - sales option U9 (Instrument Gauges and Rallye clock)

So then are you saying that the 24hr clock was an option for the 71-72 GSX's?

Yes, you could have the clock, tach or a blank plate in the right side pod. Our 71 GSX has the tach there, as the hood tach was an option in '71 over and above the in dash tach, whereas the hood tach was standard on the GSX's in 1970. All 1970 GSX's had the hood tach, all 1970 GSX's had the 24 hour clock, both as standard equipment. In 1970 there was no option to replace the hood tach with the in dash tach, but in 1971 and 1972 there was.

So in 72 it seems to be that the options for the GSX were a hood tach with either a 24hr clock or a blank spot, or an in dash tach with no hood tach and no 24hr clock? Correct? Or maybe even a 24hr clock with no tach at all, would this be true? Not that no tach is my choice, I really wanted to know if the 24hr clock was an option in the GSX with the hood tach, in 72?

    Lets try this...

    No hood tach +
    - in-dash tach
    - rallye clock
    - regular 12 hour clock
    - 'delete' plate (blank spot)

    Hood tach +
    - rallye clock
    - regular 12 hour clock
    - 'delete' plate (blank spot)

By any chance do you have any pics of a 24hr clock?

I think I've got one here, but it's in a regular GS not a GSX. Sorry, not a close up. Someone else probably has a much better one.

What might be missing here is the clock is a GS item not just a GSX item.

I was hoping to get a closer pic so I can distinguish the difference between the 12 hour clock and the 24hr one. If you could please.

A rallye clock will have numbers on the inside (13, 14, 15, etc...)

The salesman's fact book says that Skylarks could be ordered with a regular clock, or gauges/regular clock package. If the gauge/clock package was ordered on a GS, it included the rally clock. So looks like the rally clock is only factory correct on a GS with the gauges package. Looks like GS models without gauges got a regular clock if one was ordered.

1970 is the only gsx model that came with all the gsx options... 71,72 gsx was a gs with gsx options.. you had to order each an every gsx option offered in 1970.

The most important thing to remember about the rallye clock in these cars is to wear a watch. When I had mine and the car was only 14 years old it would put down about 15 ticks per hour. :pp
