G'day all, My name's Mick and I'm in Australia, and I am now the proud owner of a 1970 Estate. It is a hearse that came out of a private collection recently, with 90,000 miles on it. I'll post a pic or 2 later along with 100's of dumb questions in the future. It is extremely rare in these parts I think, so I'll need all the expert advice I can get. For now, it's missing the front bumper emblem/over-rider. I'm not sure what it should be. Is this available, as it's the only thing missing. Also, the air cleaner sticker reads "455-4". What does the "-4" denote? 4 bolt? stage 4?
Many more stupid questions where these came from....

    Greetings

There is no such thing as a stage 4 and only experimental factory blocks were 4 bolt. I always assumed that the "4' denoted a 4 barrel carb.

Describe for me again what is missing on the hood . Could it be the word Estate?

Clam shell doors in the back or a two way tailgate?

I'll post a pic later, but the bumper has the remains of a black rubber emblem, or over-rider on the pointy bit at the front. The tail gate opens 2 ways, drop down and "farm gate", not clamshell

    G'day Mick,
(Will that be Dundee from Walkabout Creek, mate ? )

Does the front on your hearse look like this, with that same emblem missing ?

There should be a Buick Tri-Shield logo in that spot:

    General idea of the Tri-Shields:

looks pretty damn similar, Erik, even the middle photo looks like its missing like mine, bloody thieves. so it's an emblem, nor over-rider?

It's an emblem for sure, and the 2nd photo is showing the Tri-Shield on the car, but it's not really that big.
Maybe this is a wee bit better:

Found one for you on the net.....asking US$ 175.00 :Dou:

Click logo and scroll down to 1970 Electra. :Smarty:

Just put a little note in the Parts Wanted section, I'm sure one of the board members can help you out for a lot less money :TU:

What about a few photos of your hearse ? :beer

$175 at current exchange rate = au$300! thanks for the tip though, save a couple more weeks. i'll post in parts wanted too. i'm at work now, when i get home (2 hours) i'll put up some pix. paint's imac, as is leather, and suprisingly the vinyl roof.

I know what your'e thinking. "Whats with those tail gate indicators!" To comply with aussie regulations the indicators have to be yellow. whoever chose these should be made to replace them with something more appropriate, then shot.
My only plans are wheels, airbag suspension and headers/extractors (these will probably have to be custom made deu to the right-hand drive conversion. BIG $$$$)

You Aussies know how to plant them in style. What was the concept behind the luggage rack? Perhaps overflow?

Have you considered the TA shorty headers? They may fit without mods.

my guess it was to carry the flowers. they make an eerie sound when the wind blows (at least, i think it's the wind....)

Same rules as in countries like Germany and Blighty :Dou:
Put a yellow bulb in your back-up lights and change the wiring. :Smarty:

    Here's a little avatar, Mick:

Store it to your computer and put it on the board by clicking on USER CP above :TU:

thanx erik, having trouble with it though. saved to desktop, dragged to avatar window, can't change option.
thinking about small inconspicuous indicators that will only be noticed when on. the reverse lifgts are probably too close together.

    Mick,

Total size is a wee bit too big, max is 40 kb, yours is 42 kb.
No worries, I'll change it later on for you.

Try the same old thing on this single-photo avatar, should work A1:

ohhh nicely done erik. flynbuick, haven't looked at headers yet, need advice though as there will probably be nothing available here ready made. ta shorty? most performance stuff here is aimed at the small block market, 253,302,308,350,351 ford/chev stuff.
i'd hate to import only to find it doesent fit, or modifying is as expensive as custom fabricating.
3 am here. thanx for the interest so far....

Looking at this photo, I was thinking the same.
Seems like the Tri-Shield is still in on the car, but maybe it's an earlier photo ?

alas, this is all that remains, so i never got to see it properly. the emblemagic site shows this as 2 pieces? the emblem + retaining bezel = US$350!
by the way flynbuick, the link to taperformance doesen't seem to work?
dumb question, maybe for another section, is the 455 ok on unleaded? should u add the extra valve lube? i've heard some early motors were able to run on it without additives. it does ping a little. eventually, i'll convert to straight L.P.G. (propane) due to the fact that it's 60% cheaper, and if tuned correctly, developes more power than petrol. if the motor can already run safely on unleaded, there's no need to upgrade the head. (stainless valve seats)

These cars are known for losing the front bumper emblems...most 70's I see are missing them.
