so...here ya go. 4L80E behind the 455 big block Buick. nap time.

Looks great. Good luck with your elbow.

Had a question. What is your driveline angle with that tranny in there? Just curious.

I'm learning as I go. But I know I need a shifter, a controler. a throttle positioning sensor. a rpm sensor maybe. I may be able to plug the trans controller into the 6AL2 programmable ignition controller. If I read it right. as I said, "still learning". also a flexible dipstick.

What did the trans come out of? Did you need an adapter and, if so, who makes it?

the trans came out of a 94 GMC vandura one ton. the adapter is a TCI adapter plate from summit

Good job doing it with the bad elbow and all .. most of us would have put it in from under the underside, but I can see how pulling the body instead made it a much easier job :puzzled::Do No::Dou:

I am doing this swap as well. I have a $200 controller that is setup for instant manual electronic shifting via buttons on the steering wheel. Most controllers are $600-1000 but I don't mind shifting myself. You can also get a manual valvebody and use a floor shifter.

As he is using a TCI adapter plate converts from Buick to Chevy trans pattern. Yoke is the same spline as a th400.

actually, without the body on. I can't give accurate information on this.

Do you anticipate any clearance issues? The housing below the cooler lines looks like it may get pretty close to the floor pans/transmission tunnel.

Way to go Joe! Looking good! Will the drive shaft be shorter with that trans? Will any floor board adjustment be necessary?

Chevelle guys are fitting the 4L80E without any floor/hump clearance mods or issues.

You don't need the body on to get the drivetrain/rearend angles. The chassis just needs to be on a flat and level piece of ground. Measurements are taken off of the end of the driveshaft and the rearend where the driveshaft connects up.

I'm not to sure about the clearance yet. JW suggested 1/4" shims at the body and radiator support mounts. may need a little purssuation around the tunnel

the drive shaft will be shorter by 4 to 6 inches. I'm extending the factory mounts next weekend and will have more precise measurments on the difference betwwen the t400 and 4l80e

Good to know. I'll look up some 67 chevelle conversions for more info

I can pull the angles off my smartie fone level. it will give me the degree. I thought the pinion angle would change when the body weight was added. maybe more under heavy acceleration yes???

    Phillip is correct here.:TU:
Next time we meet I will give you the Generals contact info.
He will meet you at the garage and make the proper measurement, build
your drive shaft and install it to make sure it has good clearances. This guy is
the best in the Valley. :bglasses:
