I am going to hook up the factory under the dash 8 track player in my car. If any of you guys have some 8 track tapes you would like to sell, let me know. Right know the only one I have is Donna Summer "Live and More", it came with the player so I am hurting if I am forced to hear that more than once... Let me know what you have. I also would like a nice case for the tapes if one of those is available. Thanks Bert
Put the word out to friends & family. You'll be surprised how many folks have boxes of these tapes laying around. They'll give them to you, just to get rid of them. Many you won't care for but a few you will really like. I have about 50-60, most given by friends. Just started collecting when I installed the player in my own car.
I've got a bag full of 8 tracks. You're welcome to them for the cost of shipping. I have no idea if they work or not as they were given to me and I have never listened to them. Brian
You could also try your local resale shops. I recently went into the Record Exchange and bought some laser discs for a laser disk player I just got for $3. They still have records (mostly 33s) and some cassettes. I asked they guy if he had 8-tracks too, and he said no. Then he commented that he's never even seen one, considering they stopped making them before he was born. LOL.
If you wind up buying some, try to get some from good labels like RCA, Decca, etc. The little chrome tape splice and the sponge backing under the tape come loose on the "cheaper" labels.
There was an adapter to play cassette tapes in your 8 track player. I had one in my 70 many years ago, worked great and I was able to play my choice of music. The adapter I had was a Sparkomatic 8 track adapter. It played all standard and stero cassettes. Jim Schilf palbuick
Also check out the flea markets for the old recordable tapes and a cheap stereo. The one I had recorded 8tracks back in the day so I could record cassettes or vinyl onto 8track. That's the only reason I don't throw out that old stereo that is still sitting at Mom & Dad's house (even if it hasn't been played for 20 years!). haha.
I have about 25 tapes and a tape box that holds 24 as well as a brand new, still in the box cassette adapter and a GM digital electronic tuner am/fm/8track stereo, that's right digital. I would love to sell the whole ball of wax for $100 shipped in the lower 48.
Jim, I got a NOS cassette adapter for my 8-track player @ Christmas. Made by " Miyakawa Shoko Co., Ltd., Japan. Early '70's I'd guess. Can't get it to work. Cassettes are good, 8 track player is good but no cigar. Was looking forward to having some fun with it. I'll have to send it out for repairs.
here's a note for u guys. there was a fellow interviewed on the "old autos" tv show broadcast last sunday. this guy has over 13000 8 track tapes sorted & shelved in his basement.
Better check the drive belts in that 8 track unit you have Bert. Theres a guy on Ebay that sells brand new belts for every make of 8 track player. Might be a good investment. Also clean the head with some alcohol. Im sure after 35 years, its could use some maintenence.
Thanks Jarrod! Let me know what I owe you, I bet you listened to the same type music... "back in the day" Bert Robert Moses 2825 Miller Drive Southside Al 35907
Whats an 8-track?? Just Kidding... I remember listening to an old Jim Croce 8 track when I was a little kid... I'll call Mom and see if she still has them...
