    69GS400s ...my own amusement ride!

I recently purchased a beautiful RED sport steering wheel for my SportWagon but the plastic hand grip has a very tacky gooey feel to it.

What is the best method to clean/remove the goo ??

    Goo-B-Gone ?? :Do No: :Dou:

As far as I can tell, this is a common problem. Before the board crash, there were numerous fixes that ranged from using the dishwasher to baking in the oven. I can clean mine and it gets sticky again. From what I understand, the sticky is from the plastic that has been aging. Good luck and hope you can find a fix that works.

Kinda gross, isn't it? I am hoping that one of the times I clean mine, it will stay goo-free

I've got one in the basement thats the same way, I finally gave up on it. I think the best fix for it is to put a cover on it..

The only thing that works on that Goooooooooey Steering Wheel is....
    SPUNK - BE - GONE !!!!!!!
I heard Buck Wheat uses it on the VELOUR upholstry on his Fleetwood Brogham.

He should Know.......He's been workin' in a car wash for 40 years ! :Dou: :Dou: :Dou:

    3shields Let's go, MOUNTAINEERS!!!

    Sounds harsh, but......

If you do it carefully, a cotton rag and a small portion of lacquer thinner will work fine, for awhile. Don't whipe too long or it will start disolving the grain. I have used it on my original GSX wheel several times.....about once every year or so. USE EXTREME CAUTION......

has anyone thought of using some type of clear coat on the wheel after you have it cleaned up? i get the same goo on the grips of my bike. really make for an uncomfortable ride with sticky grips.

    GStage1 Always looking for parts!

You can use RM 901 Pre-Kleano or Dupont Prep-Sol. The "goo" is due to the aging process and if you keep the wheel clean, outta of the sun (use a windshield screen or car cover) the goo should stay away for a year or two at a time.
