My best advice to you would be to talk to at least three cam manufacturers and get their feedback, then call Dave over at TA Performance. They will ask you a BUNCH of questions. They aren't being nosy. It will be information they need to help you get the 'best' cam for your specific combination and intended use of your ride.

Be realistic when you are talking to them. If you will be strictly using your car for the drags, have a loose converter, headers, aftermarket manifold, carb, ignition and some deep gears, that would be one cam grind.

On the other hand, if you plan to drive this beast on the street and need to keep smog laws in mind (You will in Tucson and all of Maricopa county in AZ), that is a whole other grind.

Also, remember that living with a 'big' cam in a street car can be a pain in the hind end. With a 4-speed, it means putting a few revs up to get the thing moving in stop & go, with an auto, it means a loose converter, BIG trans cooler and higher revs in street driving.

Write down things like what size rear tire you plan to run, what the gears are, header diameter and pipe length, mufflers or no, carb make and flow numbers, heads ported or stock, auto or manual trans and what kind of ignition you plan to run. You will want to ask them to recommend how to run the cam (advanced, straight up or retarded) and by how much based again on your combination.

I guess you can see that there are so many variables to figure into picking the right cam for a given car, that telling you which cam is 'best' is a pretty tall order. Some of the guys on here can recommend with the best of them, given most of the answers to the above questions. Maybe try posting some of the particulars about your car and ask the question again.

By the way, a lot of the same questions will need to be answered to get the best header recommendation.

Shoot me a note and let me nkow if any of this helps.

    Phil

Having all of this handy will help you and them to pick the right cam the first time.
