good news for 69 H/O and AMC SCrambler owners/restorers

At the OCA Nats last week Fusick displayed the 69 H/O outside mirrors they are going to reproduce. Better yet, the price was 300-400 for the pair. Also the same mirror for the AMC Hurst Scrambler.

There was an air cleaner top there for a 69 H/O--guy was asking $2000.

Some damn nice Hurst cars there.

is this mirror a completely different project than the current 69 H/O mirrors Joe at The Parts Place currently carries?

I do know the mirrors from The Parts Place aren't completely correct. For those wondering what they look like, if you have the first summer 2004 edition of his Cutlass/442 catalog, Joe's 69 H/O convert clone is on it. Including an engine shot with his repro'd W-30 intakes. Yes, he's got an aluminum 70 intake on his 69 H/O convert clone.

Fusicks stated these mirrors are not yet available and that they consulted members of the Hurst/Olds Club of America when setting this deal up....so it most likely is not the same part or project (fortunately). There was a note on the display card where the mirror was mounting mentioning how these would not be like other mirrors that people try to sell. My guess is that if it's Fusick's project these are being done with an eye towards "correctness". Call them up and ask them---I think you will be happy with the results.

Someone at the show I talked with claimed Parts Place basically sent a whole 442 over to Taiwan (or whereever) and told them to start duplicating parts. Saw a 71 repro alum intake at the Parts Place booth. Did a decent job although there was a slight line around the "Olds W-455" letters/numbers...a rectangular line..maybe where they switch out a plate(or something) in the mold for the 70 castings. Parts selection was slim on nice, real stuff (not a bunch of clean, rare parts) and plenty of repro and well used real stuff. Overall, I got the impression that people were not too impressed with the swap meet--this came from people that like to see rare, original stuff. I kind of agree but what do you expect with more and more cars getting redone (so people keep their parts) and the ability to sell on the internet. Some of the known, bigger rarer parts guys didn't seem to have the selection they usually have. Patton

Ok, ok.....so there were some nice condition, rare parts there! A lot of the stuff trades on Tuesday as it's unloaded off people's trailers for the swap meet. Actually, when I was driving down Loop 494 to the show on Wednesday I passed this truck and trailer going the same way and I swear I saw a guy that looked exactly like Jim, ON THIS GUYS MOVING TRAILER, digging through some boxes, holding a 66 mirror in one hand! Right behind this truck/trailer was a bunch of guys in a car with N Carolina plates. Hmmmm. Patton

yes, it is good the way Fusicks is going about this. I don't have a 69 H/O (or SC/Rambler) so I don't need the mirrors.

Yes, The Parts Place repro intakes are made in Taiwan. If you attended the Homecoming Show you saw them (along with red fender wells, W-27 covers and sport wheel) at my swap space as I have a buddy who works for Joe and he gave us a bunch of parts to take. The font on them is completely wrong. And now that you mention it, I do remember the rectangular line around the Olds W-455.

Actually The Parts Place wasn't there, per say. There is a guy that Joe knows, he buys parts from The Parts Place and basically "acts" like The Parts Place. Joe only attends one show per year.

    Jim:

Post a pic of that 66 remote mirror. I've got a few stashed away and not sure what I've got. Thanks.
