I have one of my ford brothers asking about a good place for a quadrajet rebuild (429CJ). I told him the quad shop as i thought that was the guy who comes to the pure stocks. Anyplace else?
There are many good Q-jet builders, several are on here. It really depends on what you want done to the carb. Do you want it restored to original, show plated, etc.? Or...are you just looking for a good rebuild? Do you want it performace upgraded? Different builders have different capabilities AND prices!
What ever you do , Don't use Sean Murphy!!!! I used him on Rhondas Q-Jet and he distroyed it !!!! Hogged out the Idle tranfers so big it won't idle without sounding like a tractor !!!!:af: Had no low end , Ran great wide open. But sounded like a W-30 with a BAD Vacuum leak. GRRRRrrr Was a Brand new carb that i got from Johnsons Speed shop in Lansing, Ended up having to change the Base plate to save it.
Thanks for the heads up, a good friend of mine had recently asked me about him. I didn't know what to tell him. Cliff Ruggles has my QJet currently.
NC Performance in Mt. Auburn, il. Is a good shop. They do alot of Qjets for the Illinois chapter of the GTO club. Greg is the guy to talk to if you call, 217-676-2660.
Ken at Every Day did the Q-Jet in my 65 Gran Sport, it runs like a bear and idles like a Rolls Royce. The again, Cliff Ruggles "wrote the book" on Q-Jets and has helped me many times too. Either way, you're in good and knowlegable hands.
well,,, I am a holley man,,,,but also a carb man,,,,:Brow::laugh::laugh: you can believe what Rhett says.....
