    I have read thru so many threads here about different
    makes,sizes,longer/shorter driveshafts :puzzled: etc but how does one take a stock non posi unit and make it over? :confused: I know
    for economics/availability guys--adapt,improvise,overcome
    etc to get what they need. Maybe what I am asking is
    not practical etc--so that is what I need to find out.I don't
    minding spending a reasonable amount but if it's too high
    I guess I can live without it but I will be going to the track
    and would like to have it :grin: Pete

    Cheapest and quickest solution is to get the GM 410408 posi unit for 3 series gears from 80-87 full size GM wagons.

    Read this article www.buickperformance.com/posi.htm

    You will need to take it to a rear axle builder for them to inspect your axle bearings and set-up the posi unit for your car.

    That's what I just completed on my LeSabre's 8.5 rear, a junkyard posi carrier, new clutches/spring/shims, and FINALLY found a local shop to put it in.

    junkyard axle - $100
    clutches, etc - $175 (Randy's Ring and Pinion)
    rebuild carrier and install - $298
    total = $575.

    I'm happy! :TU:

    (and it just took me 8 months of piddling around)
