Took the Convert. out to Barona 1/8th mile drags. I had some head work done, better flow, and a great improvement to the low lift numbers, and had the torque converter tightened to work better with the nitrous. New slicks, and a 200 shot netted the best 1/8th mile pass to date, 1.34 60ft., 5.91 at 116mph! I was pretty happy, my friend said it did wander alittle, and it was a hot 85 deg. day, so pretty sure I can get a 5.80 or 5.70's without jetting the nitrous up. Sorry I had no pit crew,(no videos) and no track photos, did have some battery trouble, but all is great. The crowd was very shocked and impressed to see a Buick powered Buick running that good!

Good goin Gary! What's holding you up in the 60' though? Seems like a run that quick would be down in the low 1.20s...Fish
    BTW...you talked to Rick lately?

Where do I start. I run TA stg 2 TE's that were just reworked by Dr. Js' performance in Orange County. My car was running great, but was smoking, the guides were shot, and after flow checking them, they had terrible reversion, and the low lift numbers were poor. Dr. J redid everything, I don't have the numbers on me right now, but they were much better than what they were. My combo. is a 464 ci, 12 1/2 to 1 compression, sp2 intake with 1050 dominator, Competition Components (Scott Brown) custom solid flat tappet cam, nitrous express plate unit, 2 1/8th to 2 1/4 custom step headers, th400 with a 9in converter, rear end is a Ford 9in with 3.70 gear. Rear suspension is "stock" with dbl. adj. shocks, adj. upper and lower control arms, and an HR parts and stuff anti roll bar, front is trz a-arms, moroso springs and QA1 adj. shocks. In my '65 Skylark Convertible, 3550 lbs. w/driver, runs 10.29 at 130mph on motor, ran 6.10 at 112 mph on the 200 shot in the 1/8th mile, 9.44 at 145mph, before head and converter work, the 5.91 at 116 was my new best 1/8th mile pass, that equates to a 9.20, I just need to 2 tenths to be in the 8's... I think the 60ft. times are great, being that I'm only running a 3.70 rear gear, and 29.5 x 10.5 slicks....I know I can get it in the 5.80's just by getting a nice straight pass down the track, and a cooler day. No Fish, haven't heard from Rick C. in about 4 or 5 months....

Gary do footbrake or use a transbrake?

  12. badbuik

    badbuik Well-Known Member

Hey Fish. I use a trans. brake leave at 3600 rpm, straight off the brake, nitrous hits when the TB button is released. I run Buick aluminum rods, stock length, I shift at 6200 rpm and buzz the motor to 6800-7000 rpm on the 200 shot. Motor is internally balanced, I think that is a big help....

is that a girdled block ? that is what i'm looking at going with for a set-up all I want to run 9.50's for a heads up class would be nice to hit it hard and go in the 8's once or twice.....what piston you have?

Cool beans Gary...I'm glad something is going on in the race section coz I need motivation...keep it up! Fish

I need to get some motivation myself, I've got that awesome Tomahawk block sitting in my garage, I should be working on that.....No main girdle on this motor, but does have a halo girdle and has almost a full fill of hard block. The pistons are BME nitrous, then lightened some.. I know that the fact that I found a great machine shop for this build, and the internal balance, and not detonating, is keeping it alive and running very strong. What totally sucks is that machine shop closed down, so I'll be trying to find a suitable replacement, I'll have a pretty good chunk of change with my new 475ci Tomahawk nitrous beast, I need to get it right the first time. I'm shooting for 8.60 to 8.40's.

BadBuik, What do you think about Dr J's port work? I have been telling people on here about him and two other people but no one wants to to listen to me. Maybe because I'm new but who knows! Dr J's can do so awesome port work.

    Gary,
What kit are you running i'm shoping around right now and was looking at the speed tech stuff but that got pricy quick my brother is running a nitrous express kit which seem like good stuff .Ordering the girdle today and start to shop for piston and cam. also are you running a cumtoms grind cam?

I run a nitrous express Gemini Twin plate unit (50-300), but for my aluminum motor I have a NOS pro race fogger (100-500). The NX stuff is pretty pricey too, works good though. Not sure what plate system I'd buy these days, Nitrous Supply has good prices on kits, my fogger was almost $900 from Jegs. Yes I do run a custom ground cam, Scott Brown at Competition Components picked a profile that was "smaller" than what I ran in the past, but it makes more power. I'll post the specs. later, it's like 260 @ .050 and 595, 634 lift with a 1.7 rocker. You had mentioned buying pistons, CPs' are the hot "stuff" right now, they are awesome, and have a leteral gas port for nitrous, call Scott Brown @ (616)499-6223, he will take care of you, that's what I bought from Scott and like I said they are awesome.
