Hi guys i am going to purchase a 1975 455 buick and would like some insight into this particular year engine. I have read somewhere that there was a year at which buick improved the oil galleries on the big block, is this that year?

I f you wizards have any other sugestions, concerns, or by-the-ways please toss then this way because I certainly appreciatte them.

    the chief.

Hey Alex. One of the first things I did after pulling the 455 out of a `75 Riv I bought for parts was junk the heads and intake.Come to think of it I only kept the short block, timing cover and oil pan.
You will be better off with some older year heads and a 71-74 800 Qjet carb not the `75 carb.I have read on this board that the `75-`76 blocks are a bit better in the casting aspect.Anyway, lots of guys here to give advice about machining and what parts to use.Good Luck.Later,Tony.

Hey Alex.No problem.I think the `75-`76 block is good choice. My machinest was quite impressed with my block when I brought it his shop.He said it was an ''excellent'' core, probably an old man owned the car and it saw under 2000 rpm!! Now,if I can just get it back home!!! Boy,I am getting antsy!!! Hope your block fairs as well.Later,Tony.

    Congratulations!

Hey Alex...good score on the 455...nothing like having another 105 cubic inches. Let me know if there is anything that I can do to help out.

    thanks

thanks paul. it looks like I will get the 455 and tranny for about $350. here in PA. what year is the engine in your car?

this one seems to me complete, I know that 1975's 455s have the lowest HP but I plan on building this one slowly since my 350 is new and runs great.

    My 455

Alex, my 455 is an SF code 1970 motor out of a big car. It was a low mileage engine provided by Al Fiandaca from the list (GSTHUNDER). It really was a great engine to start with. Take your time and do it the way you want it. ...and remember, Jim Weise can get us any parts at all for our engines (TriShield Performance). He put together a whole rebuild kit using parts from TA and others at a real decent price...and the tech support is second to none!
