69 Rivi generator light stays on, i tested battery while car was off volts are 12.5 or better. When the car is running the volt meter reads 14 an i also took the positive cable off while the car was running she did not mis a beat, so am i correct for saying that it not the alternator? When the light first came on i replaced the voltage regulator an still the light is on. This problem all started when i took the electric pump out the tank an ran a manual pump on the block. Was that the wrong thing to do?
All I can think of is this: The factory electric fuel pump is linked in some way to the oil pressure sender, did you remove the electric connection from the oil pressure sender as well ?
No i did not remove it, the only thing i did was take the pump out the tank all the wires are still hook up, well no the positive a negative that was on the pump
Mine does the same thing and has been that way since 05 or 06. Everything seems to work fine with the charging system though.
Thanks Kevin thats what i am thinking, everything check out an is giving the proper volts. When the car is running Bad Brad the light is on when the car is off all lights are off. I posted all the info i can brad or that i know if there is a question you are needing to know then answer to ask me.
Check voltage at the #2 terminal on the regulator. If its above 5 volts and the light isnt out, the field relay in the regulator is bad.
My Gen light (idiot light) goes on couple years ago and the problem was that the alternator strap went "loose" , I just tighten it a bit the strap and the light turn off .
Yes my belt is very tight, I checked that out. By pulling the positive off while the car is running is that a sure way to tell if its the alternator? If so i did that an it keeps running.Im about to check the fuses i have not done that yet.
Mine does that every once in awhile. All I need to do is wiggle the plug in the back of the Alt and it goes out.
Yup. I even worked with "mechanics" who tried that. o No: Of course, in a number of cases, replacing the alternator fixed the problem. Briz, that plug attaches to the regulator, as I'm sure you know. Loose connections case problems like that, too. I'd recommend pulling the female spade clips out of the plug and putting a small crimp on them, so they make better contact with the regulator terminals.
So I'm curious. What was the final fix> Because out of nowhere my GEN light was on tonight. I'll check all the suggestions but I'd like to hear what fixed this.
