I have a 70 car with factory gages. My problem is I have no inst. lights in the gage and spedo but do have lights in the clock. also the high beam indicator on the spedo lights up when you rotate the headlight knob to brighten the dash lights? All bulbs look good any ideas?

    BadBrad Got 4-speed?

Did you take the bulbs out and test them individually?

    Check ground

    Daryl-

Dash light problems are often caused by a bad ground to the instrument cluster printed circuit. The high beam indicator dimming is what makes me think of this in your case. If the dash cluster ground is bad, current from the dash lights will go to ground through other light bulbs - wierd stuff can happen, and it's hard to figure out.

Try connecting a separate ground wire from the grounded or "common" part of the dash cluster printed circuit to a known good ground on the firewall. Then, of course, you might also have burned out lamps as BadBrad suggests.

Thanks for the input guys, I put in all new bulbs.I was wondering, in the wiring diagram of the inst. panel I saw one diagram where a ground strap joined the spedo and gage cases. I am going to try a jumper wire on the two cases.
