why wont it work? ive read on the team chevelle website that its a common swap. i was just wondering what brake hoses to use......
Are your sure you don't require different upper or lower A-arms or aftermarket A-arms or different balljoints. I have never rear/been told they are a direct swap. Can you share some details?
I thought they were different also. You can get the same parts, but I don't think they interchange between the a-bodies and the g-bodies. Some things can come off of them like steering boxes though.
from what i read.....all bolt on except the use of a g body lower ball joint, which must be turned down approx .060 and you must use the g body outer tie rods.the downfall is these g body rotors are 10'' not 11''. but i cant see a 69 skylark weighing much more than a loaded 87 monte ss.its just something im wondering about im not sure im gonna do it without more info.....
I swapped S-10 front spindles onto my wife's 65 El Camino. She works at Auto Zone, so I had her pull all the parts for the Camino and for the S-10. The taper on the ball joints is different because newer cars are metric. I had to change the upper and lower ball joints and the outer tierods. The threads on the tie rod sleeves are the same, so there was no difficulty there. As far as the G-bodies, I have an 84 Monte Carlo that I was going to rob the front disc brakes off of, but ran into the same issue. I didn't pursue the swap simply because I didn't think about it at the time to check the differences in the ball joints. I just knew they wouldn't work when I tried to bolt them on directly. I'd say go to your local auto parts store and ask the counter person to pull both sets of parts for your car and the donor car and use a micrometer to check the overall specs. The S-10 lower ball joints were a micro-hair larger, but I used a master ball joint press and had no problems. Good luck, -Josh
ball joints are the same as a b-body spindle swap so any supplier of those will have the ball joints you need small disc brakes are still better then drum bigger bearings and one piece spindle
I hang out in the circle track world and we always get rid of these spindles and brakes!!! ( on g-body cars)We use 78 up impalla spindles (5x4 3/4 bolt pattern) G-body brakes really suck!!! Just my 2 cents!! Brad
Ok, so someone spell it out for me. I want my 69 to handle and brake like a newer 4 wheel disk vehicle. I already know I can go to the junk yard and pull the eldorado, toranado, and buick rear disks and calipers and just modify the rear flange (cut) to go onto my 8.2 The front on the other had has options that ive read all over. I could even go as far as to use my drum spindles and go to the local bearing supply and get the id for my spindles and stock od for the disks I intend to use. Dont want to. I want to be able to go to the junk yard and get the whole dealerbobber. Someone educate me because if I have to educate myself in this manner, Im gonna post it for free so others can safely drive our bad azz rice crushers and hemi killers and stop on a dime. Plus Id like to know of the diy pressure valve that can be installed to lock the fronts up for burnout purposes. Youve guessed that I dont have the moolaa anymore (job change) to go out and just buy a 1k system, so im reverting back to my junk yard diyers. Thanks guys
I did use new S-10 everything, calipers, rotors, and hoses, as well as new bearings and seals. If you want even better stopping power, look for Chevy S-10 Extreme front discs. They are dual piston calipers, and they are really nice. -Josh
your turning radius wheel suck along with more bumpsteer switching the spindels could you use your spindels and the rotors, calipers and all the other goodies of the g body car? i never tried that seems it might work
