Hi guys. So I’m replacing the fuel system on my 70 Skylark. It all started with a faulty level sending unit, gotta obviously drop the tank so…….if it’s down I’m not going to put a 53 year old tank back up so might as well order that. Straps and mounting hardware are of course going to need replaced so order that. I noticed a small fuel leak last winter from the 3/8 fuel line so might as well replace that. Having vapor lock issues sometimes so might as well add a return line. So now I gotta replace the fuel pump for the return line……etc. so a bad fuel level sender snowballs into replacing the entire fuel system, this is how every project goes for me.

my question is related to the vent lines. I have all the lines replaced from the engine back to the tank, I was able to install the new pre bent fuel lines by jacking the body up off the frame about 6” and sliding them in from the side, I’m going to throw the new tank in today.

When I ordered the tank from tanksinc.com the standard replacement GM34B was out of stock but they did have a GM34L which is a Buick only tank. Only difference is three vents instead of two so I ordered that and figured I would just cap off the extra vent. Now that I see them side by side the vent tube locations are in totally different places. Just curious if anyone on here has made this tank work in a car without a charcoal canister?

Also fyi, the tanks inc tanks are described as a galvanized tank, and the example photo shows a galvanized tank. What you receive is a painted tank. I called them about it and they told me that is is galvanized steel but then is painted/coated to protect the spot welded areas. I was going to return it but I think I’m just going to avoid the aggravation and use it. I’m just throwing this out there because I don’t really care for the look, I wanted a factory looking tank.

So just an update on this fuel tank for anyone who may be looking to buy one.
I would definitely not recommend buying a tank from tanksinc.com
First off the tank I received was made in Taiwan and painted gray rather than galvanized as it is described.
Secondly the filler neck is about 3” too long and more bent upwards thank out factory tanks, so although it will fit in the car, the license plate will not close all the way, and it is somewhat blocked by the bumper.
When I called them they tried to work out getting me the proper tank but I was pretty unhappy with the product and just wanted a refund. They did refund me but only the cost of the tank, no shipping. Complained again and the refunded me half the shipping and told me to just keep the tank and sell it.
So I ordered a tank from Spectra Premium off rock auto, made in Canada and galvanized steel, and cheaper than tanks inc.

Anyone know what the tanksinc unit may fit? I’m guessing Chevelle? I need to try and sell it to recoup my shipping

So in reality you'll be making money for your time & troubles.
    Can't complain about that.

Not complaining, or at least not trying to. I just wanted to pass on my experience and hopefully save someone else a little time and aggravation.
As far as making money, that is questionable. Hard to sell something when you can’t put in the description what vehicles it would fit. I’m down about $85.00 at this point so could be worse.

The only tank to get is the GM34B. Set it up to where rock auto will email you when it’s back in stock.
