Greetings all.Newbe here with a question.I have a 73 century that is my daily driver and is in need of a new fuel tank.Went to the parts store and ordered one up.When it came in the neck was wrong.wrong angle.Mine has like a 15 degree bend and the one I got has a 45 degree bend.Anyone ever run into this? They say it is corect but Im doin the math under the car and it dosent look like its going to work.Anyone else ever have this ?o No:
Most aftermarket sources I have dealt with have not included a new neck, and have told me to just make do with my old one. Hard for something to be too wrong with a filler neck, worth thinking about anyway.
I was going to order a tank for my 70 GS last year, but none of them come with the filler neck, so i would have to reuse my old one...So I never purchased one...What a hassle Nick :af:
Transplanting the neck is no big deal. I have done it many times on a 70 tank. Here is the standard listing withthe 45 bend. http://www.gastanks.com/prodinfo.asp?number=GM-1213A
Thanks for the ideas guys.I thought about changing the neck but it looks lik its welded on.Also, my old neck is in sorry shape.
I see The Parts Place offers a new tank w/ filler neck for your car. Perhaps you should check with them regarding fit. Their part # FT9062S. GM#1213A. Good Luck!
Where abouts are you from dartman. I have a tank that came out of my 73 Century that you can have cheap. Shipping might be a problem as it has had fuel in it.
Rockauto has the same 1213A that Jim mentioned for $143 (vs $185 at gastanks.com) - didn't check shipping differences. But you state that it isn't the right one. Here's a photo link from Rockauto: Their buyers guide list these as the applications for that tank: BUICK CENTURY (1973 - 1977) BUICK CENTURY CUSTOM (1975 - 1977) BUICK CENTURY LUXUS (1973 - 1974) BUICK CENTURY SPECIAL (1975 - 1977) BUICK REGAL (1973 - 1977) OLDSMOBILE CUTLASS (1974 - 1977) OLDSMOBILE CUTLASS S (1974 - 1977) OLDSMOBILE CUTLASS SALON (1975 - 1977) OLDSMOBILE CUTLASS SUPREME (1974 - 1977) OLDSMOBILE CUTLASS SUPREME BROUGHAM (1976 - 1977)
Nick, I believe the Spectra Premium ones come with a neck. They are made in Canada, not the Far East. I will find the part number and post. Let me know how many and where the vent ports are on your tank. I have a catalog, and the buyers guide shows the neck? Let me know. Regards, John.
when i bought the new tank for my 65 from goodmark it came with the filler neck. I ordered one from them for my 66 and it came without. My friend who is a goodmark distributor told me that they stopped including the necks because it was much harder to ship and increased the box size to much. don't know if this is true but it makes sense.
The goodmarks are made on canada. I seem to racall that the way to tell an overseas version from a canadian was the overseas are painted and the canadians are natural finish
Thanks Eric but I understand nobody ships used tanks any more.We took the origial neck and some tubing and made a new one. Was a pain but we got it done.So much for a fast tank change. Thanks to all who offered help.
you can have the gas tank steam cleaned (think radiator shop) and then ship them. I had one shipped that way. luckily the person selling it worked at a radiator shop. there is NO smell of gasoline on this tank when I received it. nate
Hello John, I am not looking for a tank at this time, but thanks for the info on the vendor in canada making one with the neck..
Most I see are soldered on and easy to remove. If yours just looks bad it will clean up rreally easy.
