:Do No: ok guys, i still need some more input on this fuel pump question. i need to know if running an electric pump in conjunction with the mech. pump will cause too much pressure at the carb. if I'm running a pump with 7 psi. this is on the edelbrock performer carbs.this fuel plumbing stuff is new to me and I want to get the most out of my combo. if anyone has any suggestions they would greatly be appreciated

I don't know much about your combo, so I'm just guessing here.

Why do you think you don't have enough fuel pump?

To answer your question, you can maintain proper fuel pressure at the carb by adding a regulator after the mech fuel pump. Otherwise, an electric pump plus the mech may very well be giving the carb too much pressure.

FWIW, my brother had a 455 in a suburban, and when he was towing, sometimes the carb would run dry up long hills. He replaced the mech pump altogether with a Holley Red pump (electric), and never had any fuel pump problems ever again (the pump now pushes fuel into a Caddy 500, which takes even more fuel). If you go to a good-sized electric pump, you may never have to putz with it again.
