What front springs would put the car back to a level stance? Anyone have some laying around for cheap? Thanks, Mike

Remember - the 455 isn't much heavier than a 350 Chevy. It doesn't take a lot of spring to hold one up. If you're running an aluminum intake the difference is less than 100 lbs.

I just had the front suspension redone in my 83 last summer. I used new springs meant for a V-8 Regal wagon & the front sets up just like it did new with the v-6 & sport suspension. Its actually a bit taller than I'd like, but I like the stock rear, nose-down look.

This is what I want to go to in my big block Cutlass. The rear springs I have picked out are about an inch an a half shorter than stock. I am doing this to take most of the rake out part of which is do to the fact that I have 26" tires up front and 29" in the rear. 235/60/15s & 255/70/15s. FWIW I also have a GN sway bar in the rear and a 36mm sway bar from a early 90s WS6 Trans Am up front. This has dramatically helped the handling without changing the ride a lot as poly bushing and stiff springs often do.

Hey Vern , do you have any pics with the 255/70/15's on the car? I have a pair unmounted I was thinking about using but I wanted to see how they looked before I got them mouinted.

    Thanks :TU:

When I first put the 455 in my car I installed new factory Grand National springs in the front. It seemed to sit a little to high for taste. I went back and put some Hotchkis 1" drop springs on the front and rear, and I love the new stance. I think they were around $300 for the front and back set in Summit.

You can see a picture of my car with these springs in the members rides thread!

Jamie I will have to get some. I used 1/4" spacers on top of the aluminum brake drums and they are mounted on widened (8") factory 442 wheels. Sorry not sure of the backspace. There is also a 5/16" should you need it. Aluminum drumbs are a little thicker than the more common steel drumbs. I had 275/60s on it before and they did not need the spacer.
