I am looking to convert to disk brakes on the front of my skylark I was looking but have had no luck. Living in miami florida the junk yards have nothing does any one make a kit or know where to get these parts. I woulld be really thankful for your help Brandon
There are many after market conversions Baer, SSbrakes, etc. But for thr retro fit see the donors here http://www.buickperformance.com/discbrak.htm
Hey Brandon, read your topic line again closely for a nice chuckle... You might find it easier to go with a new disc conversion kit from one of many vendors-- all the parts you need are there, no need to rebuild calipers, turn rotors, etc, if you can even find a donor car with factory discs, usually gone already as you seem to have found.... Master Power Brakes is one, but ask here about others' success with various kits available........
I am happy with the Wilwood conversion. I know it cost me about $100 more than a stock conversion another BB member did. for the extra $100 I got braided brake lines, aluminum 4-piston calipers, 12.2" rotors, lightweight aluminum hubs. Sounds like a deal to me! Mine came from hotrodsusa.com good luck!
Didn't want to mention that but since you brought it up those are hard to come by because you cannot use them but one time.
70 skylark disc conversion problem . Hi guys I have a 70 skylark with drum brakes and BF goodrich p265 /50/r15 tires that are 8 in wide. American racing Daisy s200 wheels. Not knowing the wheels were going to be a problem . I bought a disc conversion kit from the junk yard. Got the parts from a 72 skylark, spindles / rotors calipers. P valve / lines / hoses . The car stops fine. BUT My wheels stick out further than before, and hit the fender..I tried spring spacers but still rub. I can't roll the fender under with body work.. Would look like crapp .. You think I can get 84 Chevy El Camino rotors to fit ? I have to find a rotor that doesn't push the wheel out as far.. Anyone know of a rotor I can use ? Same bearings ?? Anyone know any other type of rotor...s 10 ElCamino ... 84 You can see the car here www.mk-defender.com
Www.scarebird.com Brandon, There is a company in WA that sells brackets that bolt onto the drum brake spindle and you can use the calipers and rotors from many full size GM vehicles. Check it out and see if they make the brackets for the Skylarks. I'm pretty sure they do. The company is called scarebird mechanical. WWW. Scarebird.com.
