Had to look through the Chassis manual the other day and found the 70's had a pretty elaborate system for controlling the air temp into the carb. Is anybody using this stuff, and are the parts around or are they unobtanium and useless anyway. My air cleaner has some junk vacuum lines hooked to it but not to any control system left. Its fresh air all day every day. Thanks,

Does anybody have a working fresh air induction system on a 70 GS? Functioning vacuum doors to blend warm air with fresh cool air for smooth idle and gas conservation?
Or are all cars like my 70 GS with some vacuum lines hanging off the air cleaner, not connected to any control system? Thanks,

    Ted,
I don't think anyone concerned with performance would bother to hook up the factory system. The whole purpose of the doors is to keep the air coming into the air cleaner at a higher temperature(115*). Hot air is less dense and makes less power. It does however enable the engine to run on a leaner mixture with less emissions, and speed warm up.
There is a sensor in the air cleaner that controls the amount of vacuum that the diaphrams in the snorkels see. If you want to hook the system up, all you need to do is hook one end of the sensor to full manifold vacuum, and the other end to the diaphram(s) in the snorkels. If the diaphrams are defective, you can probably use one from any air cleaner from a GM car. The sensors should still be available in the parts stores.
