Hello, I was able to finally get my new GS started and quickly noticed water runnning under the car. It appears the freeze plug right under the motor mount is leaking. I would assume it is best to do them all as if one went bad the others are close behind. Is that a safe guess? Can the one be done with the engine in the car?
I would also swap them to brass while you are at it. I also use Indian Head shellac on them when installing them..
Shellac is a great sealer, a lot of mechanics used it years ago. I use it a lot, especially on paper gaskets. I've seen it used to seal lots of stuff. Keith
If there is any rust on the hole mating surface use a white scrubbie, it will remove rust but not metal. Then use acetone to clean the holes and the plugs before applying the shellac.
Thanks to everyone for all the great info. I am going to tackle this next weekend if all works as planned. I need this thing running as it’s blocking the garage and I can get anything out to cruise.... lol
My GS came from the factory with a block heater. No frost plug leaks when we pulled the engine. A week later, motor was re-installed, filled with coolant & started. Guess what? Coolant leak about the frost plug. The seal around the block heater had shrunk> Bitch of a job removing & installing new frost plug.
