I took the gas tank off my car the other day and was shocked when I saw the build sheet taped to the underside of the body right above the tank. I can't believe it survived (well sort of) the last 37 years in the elements. When I took it off the car it was covered by quite a bit of dirt. I used a small paint brush to sweep it off. It cleaned up pretty nice.
That's cool u found it! I've been looking for mine on a 67 Skylark 2dr ht. Any ideas where it might be other than where u found yours? Thanks Todd
I've read some posts where people found build sheets in the door pillars and others in the backing of the rear seat.
That's cool. I have not had the chance to take down my gas tank yet to look for a build sheet. I did find two under the back seat - called Framingham "thirds" as they are unfortunately not complete ans this was the usual practice of the workers assembling the cars where mine was built.
Chris, your car has buckets correct ? Can you tell at the bottom of the sheet if there is a SCO# ? Also my '71 buildsheet was found right under the drivers carpet. I was also informed about another '71 sheet found there. If you haven't, try there.
That sheet is a "Production Order Chassis Paint" sheet. I do not believe an interior SCO would have been listed on this sheet, as interior codes are not found here. This sheet was used to build the chassis/front end sheetmetal. It would probably have been listed on the "Production Order Body Final" sheet. Duane
>>Hi. My car originally had a split bench seat, I added the buckets last year. I added a new carpet too and found no build sheet. I think my best bet to find another build sheet will be on top of the gas tank or perhaps in the windshied pillars.
My car originally had a bench seat too. I have the interior completely out of the car and didn't see any paperwork under the carpet or in the seats. I recently located my original engine and am having it rebuilt. In my search, I came across the original bench seat in of all places Flint, MI where the car was built. I thought about shipping the seat but it was too expensive. It would have just taken up space in my garage too. I don't think I'd ever put it back in the car.
Sounds like you found at least most the owners to your car ? Parts scattered all over the country ! :eek2: Glad you hear you got you engine back. :beers2:
I spoke with everyone who owned the car. Ironically, the original owner took delivery of the car in Pasadena, TX, which is about 30 miles from me. About six months later he was transferred to Tennesse. In 1991, he gave car to his daughter in North Carolina, since then it went to Michigan (Flint), Arizona, California and, 37 years later, back to the Houston area. It was pretty interesting talking to the different owners and hearing their stories with the car.
Contrats!! We found the build sheet for our 72 skylark under the carpet...needless to say it didn't survive to well...trying to clean it up to get accurate info.
