Just did a tune up and put AC R46' big gappers! Finally got it running took it down the road went much better than I thought for about 1/8th mile. Then almost stalled and felt like it was missing. Came back and one of the wires on the cap had come loose. It was still running crappy. I pulled out the plug that wasn't firing and it was black, I cleaned it up put it back and it still is running like sh**. Could running for 1/4 mile on 7 cylinders foul these plugs?

Any suggestions? I just replaced cap, rotor, coil, module, and wires and am running a 750 edelbrock that smells like it is running pretty rich, but I have a feeling they all do.

    Thanks, Kevin:Do No:

    Kevin,
What ignition are you running? What is you plug gap? Not sure what an R46 plug looks like. I have seen R46TS, is that the plug you are referring to? The porcelin center of the plug, is it below the shell of the plug? The most resistant plugs to fouling, I have ever used were the projected nose plugs from Champion, the RV17YC. Here's a picture compared to an R45TS

Running stock HEI with new coil. module and cap, all stock the gap is .65 I thought that was a little much, would that cause them to foul?

Thanks, any anti fouling upgrades you can suggest would be great. I have a slightly larger than stock cam and 750 edelbrock. I was thinking an external coil and mybe a msd 6a?

    Yup,
That will do it. .065 is too big a gap for that HEI to fire. What's your compression ratio? I would say .045 for up to 10.5:1 The MSD 6A is definitely a step in the right direction, that and getting rid of the coil in cap. I'd still stay with .045 though. Are we talking about your Oldsmobile? R46 sounds like an Olds plug.

Well I pulled out the plugs and tried to clean the carbon off them, They were picth sooty black all of them. The gap from the factory was .80 some were even at .85! I cleaned and regapped them to .45, I will check it out after supper. The plugs are AC's R 46 SZ for the 455 olds.

    Thanks, Kevin:Comp:

Still loading up real bad, do you think I should trash the AC's and try some NGK's or should I rejet the carb first?

    Thanks,

I would run a UR5IX in NGK. It is the 1 cooler platnum from them.
