Make sure you have a wittness riding shotgun if your going to tell a story like this. "My good buddy", LARRY 70 GS and I are in my 11.00 G.N. still laughing about blowing the doors off a VIPER GTS when along side of us pulls a 1997 PORSCHE TWIN TURBO ALL WHEEL DRIVE $175,000 "TURBO "S". We are both at a traffic light when "RICHBOY" throws us some serious revs.I bring my boost gauge up to 5lbs and tell Larry to HANG ON....the light turns green and my G.N. sits back on the rear tires and leaves like a rocket [ NO SWAY BAR AND 90/10s] "RICHBOY" is glued to our door deafening Larry with the scream of his TWIN TURBO. The G.N. is just pulling a half a car out on him as we're running of road and have to do some serious braking."RICHBOY" downshifts 5 times and ducks down a side street never to be seen again.:ball: :ball: :ball: LARRY says HOLY S**T as I whack the pedal to the metal......to show him this was all done at 15lbs of boost .....as I'm trying to save a new motor on pump gas!!! I SAY "THE HELL WITH THE RICERS"......KICK SOME RICH GUYS ASS, make him feel dumb for paying 10 times more than you did for your car.P.S.----Always have a wittness with you at all times!!!

It feels great, don't it. I posted a while back about my run-in with a Ferrari 328 this past summer. These cars are worth every penny when this happens.

Take it to the Autobahn and see who's faster.....

In Europe a fast car is judged on top speed, not a little 0-60 sprint.

The Porche was undoubtedly "faster", but it's owner evidently thought it was "quicker" too. WRONG!

Have you ever been to the autobahn? How fast are you really allowed to go? I was told that while there is no speed limit, you will get busted for reckless driving or its equivalent if you exceed ~100 MPH. Is that true?

That was the misconception in Montana when they eliminated the speed limit. Then some jerk(and his lawyer) along with the Highway Patrol lobby got the limit reinstated.

    Adam,

On most stretches of the German Autobahn there is no speed limit, so you can go as fast as you want. Even when you're doing 155 mph you have to look in your rearview mirror before overtaking, there's always a chance some faster car is approaching. I love driving there, the Germans are good drivers and have respect for the ones going faster. One thing I had to get used to was the flashing of headlights from a quicker car. But I understand now in Germany it doesn't mean GET OUT OF THE WAY, but just a warning like, take care, I'm going much faster.
Nowadays most German cars like BMW or Audi are restricted to 155 mph, so very often you see little groups of cars doing 155 mph, just not able to overtake eachother. Germans know their laws and respect it, so when there's a 120 kph limit on some stretches of Autobahn, they all follow that rule.

Don't take my wrong, I love that story of the Porsche getting wacked ! But that's one serious supercar, I drove the S4 and boy is that one fast superb handling car!! But still, it didn't get the looks like my Riv gets here in Europe. People always come up to me to talk about the car, what it is, what engine etc. etc. Driving that Porsche I noticed people just looked away, no thumbs up or anything. Every time I see a Porsche (common as bellybuttons here) I just mumble: Wouldn't you really rather have a Buick.....

Now don't be mistaken. There is a recommended speed limit on the autobahn, It is up to you to abide by it (about 65mph) however it is up to you. Also during high traffic and low visibility. There is a set speed limit usually about 65/55 mph .

I970GS455 For the love of Buicks...

I think this particular contest was indeed the short sprint. He did not claim to say he could of walked him to 165 or else. Was a short "see what you have in the 1/4" contest, not a "whos car cost more" , or "whose car seats more" contest. This particular duel, Buick wins. The end :beer

Had to edit my post cause I dint see your name....Congrats Ron :TU: :TU: :TU: :TU:

hey guys, I dont exactly know who would win on top end. Ive heard that the engine they put in the grand nationals was desinged for 220+ mph race cars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:Brow: pretty fast i would say! I know for a fact that they can beat the viper, because ive seen it at buickpower.com. And almost everybody knows the viper is superfast, so I wouldnt bet that the porsche could overtake the GN! so, in my own opinion, I think the GN would win.:TU: Not even a doubt in my mind.

I have doubts, but the 200 4R is a great tranny and I haven't tested the top end of my GN. Against the best Porche... I'd like to bet on GM but seriously doubt it.

Hey ChinaMikeM. I believe that the porsche just might grab it on the top end by a few mph's, but I highly doubt if the porsche would even have a chance against a real GNX, because supposedly the GNX was a limited addition car that buick made, and it was a lot faster than the GN, at least it was supposed to be, anyway, in which i believe it would be faster because I have heard about what the GNX has. What the GNX was, was a GN with a little modifications here and there, which gave it extremely better results. The GN is able to beat a viper, and if it keeps up with the porsche pretty well, then the truth is revealed. The GNX would win the race on top end and on take off! They would blow the porshe away!!!!! :blast:porsche:laugh:

Much above 100-110 the Regal body is a brick. The front end starts to lift considerably. I'd be scared to death to make a top-end run with one of these things in stock trim........:eek2:

MR BUICK, I saw the video of the viper losing, that GN wasnt stock im afraid, and GN's arent top end machines. The stock chip limits them to about 125, I dont know about the GNX though i doubt its much more than that. You should go to turbobuick.com, same format as this forum only they deal with the turbo-6. Look around there and you will find out some interesting stuff.

The GNX is supposed to have a few different(better) modifications than the GN. Although the GNX was a limited edition, there was a lot of people that would love to have the GNX due to the fact that they are rare, faster, modified, and a tiny bit different than the GN. Big block motors are good for the top end, as some people say, but if you want to win a short race, or drage race, then you need a small block V8 or a turbo six. But im not sure about the top end on a GNX, and I sure wouldnt want to drive one to find out either.:Smarty:

As far as GN/GNX goes, stock, 155mph is where the REAR end gets squirelly. Front end is fine! I've heard from a good source that 145 ain't a problem in a GNX!!

1/4 mile, Porsche doesn't stand a chance! Top end, Porsche will WALK all over 155 and keep climbing! Sorry if I burst any bubbles!

Motor Trend claims the stock Turbo Trans Am with the LC2 motor will hit 170 mph. And mine will hit 150 mph so quick its unreal, so I don't doubt it. Not sure what a modded TTA will do. I'm sure 180-185 would be no problem. Here's mine. The TTA came with better flowing heads and a better intercooler. MUCH better aerodynamics. Great suspension and brakes also. One of the best cars GM has ever made, and no one really knows about them.
