I've heard you could swap a 9'' for the stock rear-end, is it possible on a '70? I know someone who is selling a 9" out of a Ford truck for real cheap and I was wondering what is needed to make it work. I know it will need different brackets for it to work, but what else is involved. Any information would be appreciated, thanks.

With any 9" housing & r/e swap, one will need a complete original car rear to mock up, & take measurements off of. 9" Ford rears were made in a variety of widths. The narrowest are a little wider than a '65-67 Nova rear, with the widest being close to 5" wider on each side! On a budget, I'd try & find a 9" hsg that was very close in overall width. Have a link in my notes on Ford 9" hsg widths, will find it & post it.

The rest is finding a chassis & hsg fabricator who is willing (or has time) to take on one off projects. With enough shop equipment & a lineup bar, you could do take on the fabrication project yourself. There is a market for fabricated 9" rears for mid 60's to early 70's big Buicks, though, its just a very small niche. Am currently working on similiar deal to fab bolt-in 9"s for '65-67 Pontiac big cars. All goes well, should have several bolt-in hsg, loaded backing plate, & axle 9" pkgs ready for spring racing season.

I bought an extra 9 3/8 rear and had the local rear end guru scott koresky( driveline solutions) use it's dimensions and brackets to fab up a 9" to fit under my 1970 electra.....disc to disc it cost me 2k last winter....still haven't actually installed it :Dou:
