I hope you all ordered small mains and big cam bearings! Isn't that half the reason you guys went with the new block?

Myself, Doug Hecker and John Csordas had our blocks ordered with the small mains ( 2.750 size) and 55mm cam bearings. That was it. After Scotty saw the block he recommended to us that we use the standard cast main caps that come with the block instead of the special optional billet caps. He said that in all the years of racing and building Buicks he never broke a main cap. He thought of it being an overkill for the money. We skipped the powder coating as we did not want the powder coating inside of the block. Had it been available for the outside only we would have gone for it.

We also didn't go for the raised cam platform as this would have been difficult getting a custom made ($$$$) timing cover or belt drive system of some sort to fit the block.

Our first step after getting the blocks is to make up a menu of parts. First being the cam and crank being there is a long waiting time for these parts.

We don't mind the waiting at this point in time as the blocks should be ready from Finishline to be picked up during the Norwalk event.

    Thanks again Geof!!

    Small mains
55mm wanted 60 but not enough room and if we can't get a real lobe with a acceptable ramps on the 55mm core we need to step to drce3 stuff
    Billet caps
    no lifter bores :Brow:
    4.495 Bore
    Wide pan rails
I would have ordered it with a shorter deck height but a 2200.00 intake kept me from doing that.

I wish they had made more provisions for dry sump applications mainly a area to drill and tapp to scavenge the lifter valley.I also would have liked to see a provision for left side starter mounting so we could run a full length kickout on the oil pan.Now I am not complaining just pointing out very small details I would have liked to see.

    10inchbuick,

Why would you order it with no lifter bores? I'm pretty much a novice, and was just curious why would do this?

    Thanks,
    Brett

Brett #1 I wanted to go to a .937 diameter lifter instead of .842 the larger lifter allow the use of a larger wheel on the lifter. The large wheel makes the cam think is bigger than it is.Now you can tame down the opening ramps on the lobe alittle to help the valve train live longer when running very large cams over .800 lift and large duration @.050.
#2 We moved the pushrods around in the heads and now require offset lifters.Well now we can position the lifters where we want to help straighten out the pushrods. This will also so help the valve train live at high rpm.

Any thing you can do to take control of valve motion is a big plus.Better control of the valve will allow more hp and less maintainence. This all comes from nascar and prostock teams. Some prostock teams are running over 1 inch dia. lifters 65mm cam cores and well over 1.150 valve lift.Valve train control is the most important thing in a race motor. All the cylinder head airflow and compression etc.in the world won't help if you can't maximize the valve train stability.

    Kevin-

Your response is very intelligent and correct. What I don't understand is why you would go to that existent when there isn't a head available for the Buicks that flows more than .800 What heads are you going to be running? I'm not sure if you mentioned that or not before. What super charger are you going to be running? Also, why do you need to run that big of a cam with a super charger? Just wondering.
Rod is making 1400 hp with .650 lift

Rod's specs for the block he ordered is stock with billet caps.

    Why Billet caps?
There are cast cap blocks out there in 2000+HP app.'s

I think it's pretty cool that people went their own way. You know we all should be happy because we all got a block that each one of us can build to our own goals.

Either way guys I feel we will all be in that small cutting edge group of Buick racers. Now with a custom block a reality it opens all the doors for us.

Can't wait to see the first one running down the track. And yes it's snowing again today, but in about 2 weeks the warmer weather and racing begins!! I can almost taste it. Can't wait!

What block,,, did you get a block,,, haven't gotten a block this way yet,,, maybe next week

Rod's goal this year is 200 mph. Shouldn't be any problem getting there with the new block and new car. Only problem is we don't have a block yet. A phone call would be nice to let us know where the block stands at this point. I just hate being left in the dark.

We keep getting told next week. Next week comes and goes and we hear nothing. We call again... get told next week,,, same thing it comes and goes with no phone call. I wouldn't mind so much if we got a phone call explaining that it isn't going to make it. I understand it takes time and I don't mind, we need it done right. I don't like not hearing anything when we were told next week by the guy building it. Maybe it's just me being paranoid.

I am running stg3's that have been tweaked to say the least Right now they flow up to .800 but don't drop off to bad above .800.We are working under the theory of max area under the curve if you stop valve lift at where the heads flow the best you only have max flow for a short period if you go above that the head flows at max flow twice once opening and once on the closing event. We haven't decided on the exact cam profile but the lift will be in the .850 range. If we have max flow @.800 why go shorter on the lift.
The blower is a ATI Procharger F3R with a air to water intercooler and electronic fuel injection. This blower is capable of supporting 2300 hp on gasoline.Right now I am shooting for 1800hp as a starting point but from what I have been told we will be able to make in excess of 2000hp when needed.Of course nothing is reality until it see's the dyno.My goals are to put a 3000lb steel bodied REAL GS into the low 7's on a 10inch tire.I know I can do it but it's going to take time.I will have the worlds fastest 66gs on the planet if it kills me doing it.I will post pics of the car soon.I'm just trying to get it done right now. There are a few people on the board that have seen pics of the car this is no joke.

I've seen the car and know what Kevin is doing. If anyone saw inside drag raceing this weekend That was my buddy steve we have been buds since 7th grade and he's no joke. He has as of right now made a hair over 1700 hundred with the motor they showed on ID with the set up Kevin is talking about. The kicker is it is for the Hot Rod pump gas drags. Thats right 1700 HP :eek2: :eek2: on pump gas with a 580 inch chevy. Pro charger is putting something together for him they claim He might see 2000. When kevins car is done it should be cool.
