The thing that struck me was the fact that he made such a point to push that its a "true" GS. If the owner feels so strongly about the authenticity, then the 396 seems kinda hypocritical wouldnt you say? Its not so much the chevy engine that gets me (although the 396 is acurious choice), because actually if you recall Bill, I recently made a pretty lengthy post in one of your threads arguing as to why your LS powered car should be allowed to run at the GS Nats. Still, theres no way Im putting a legit chevy motor (not gm corporate, but strictly a chevy specific) in my Buick, but thats just me.

If you check way up there to where I posted you will see that I'm not going to argue with you.
I think someone sees a car with the wrong engine and posts pretty much this same thread at least once per month.

It's just a car and it's just an engine. Not what I would do but not a big deal. This is easy enough to change back also. Doesn't hurt anything for it to be out on the street with the wrong engine either.

Go to any car show and you will see all sorts of classic cars with Chevy engines in them. A lot of the time it's not my choice for the car and maybe shows a lack of imagination, but it's their car.

As for the "true GS" part, what would you have him say? That is what it was sold as. That should be what the VIN and title say.
Guys buy rusted hulks with no engine and say that they bought a GS all the time. Guys re body a car and call it a true GS or GSX or whatever. The car IS a GS even if it's missing some stuff. GS is what Buick called it and it may just be a lot closer to the way it left the factory than a lot of "GS" cars out there with Buick engines in them.

I agree with that 100%, if it left the factory as a GS then it's still a GS even if it's nothing more than a parts car anymore.

I didn't point my post at anyone in particular and I know that others will in fact agree me, but even if they don't my point is simply that I just cannot understand why there is so much ridicule towards those who choose to have their car the way they want it, not the way others may want it. Who should even care other than the owner? I like all kinds of cars, original cars and hot rods, Model T's through Musclecars, and even though they might not be built the way I would have done it I still respect that they did it the way they wanted it. I have also seen some fantastic engineering on some one off cars that really impressed me. Good for them. I wouldn't care if the guy put an AMC inline 6 in that car, I would still respect it. At least it wouldn't be sitting behind his garage while he tells everyone he's going to restore it someday.
