    Ok here is my problem....

I am putting a Buick 350 into my Jeep CJ5. I am using an Advanced Adapters bell housing designed for a Buick V6. When the starter is bolted to the bell housing(with no shims) the flywheel teeth come in contact with the shaft that the Bendix drive gears ride on. The starter needs to be shimmed about 3/4 of an inch away from the engine but cannot be shimmed that much because the housing of the stater comes in contact with the bell housing. Now most people say to get a smaller flywheel.
Napa sells 4 different ring gear sizes of flywheels for a Buick 350 a 9.75 and 10.5 inch ring gear for a 153 tooth flywheel and a 10.75 and 11.5 inch ring gear for a 168 tooth flywheel. My question is, What flywheel should I run? I believe that the V6's used a 153 tooth flywheel, which I believe I can run on my 350 and because of its smaller diameter, will fix my problem, but what size ring gear? And will my theory even work?

    Thanks
    Jeff
