For some reason I have two small block Buick flywheels and need a big block Buick flywheel. Can I change the 160 tooth ring gear on a small block flywheel to a 166 tooth (assuming it's available) ? The flywheel will be going to the machine shop for re-balancing during an engine rebuild. Are there other differences (size, weight, dimensions) between small and big block Buicks? Or do I just need to get out my wallet and call TA Performance?

I do not think they are compatible and I don't think it will work though I have never had a reason to try it.

Diameter is different.. think about it, how are you going to fit an extra six teeth, whose dimensions are standardized, on a wheel that is full with 160 teeth?

When the books call out "166 teeth" they are really talking about the diameter of the flywheel/flexplate.
